The pardons may be largely symbolic as none of the people listed were convicted of federal crimes, which the presidential pardon covers.

Remember when Rudy got tricked into almost having sex with a fake reporter in Borat?

He was nonchalant about the whole thing, owing to how normal it is for him to have sex with women half his age because of his wealth.

Donald Trump also raped kids. I don't think we should be supporting any of the decisions his administration makes.

A fake UNDERAGE reporter

"Look I dunno about you guys, but when I need to tuck in my shirt in front of a young girl whom I've just met - I always just lie down on a bed in front of her while staring weirdly at her and then tuck my shirt all the way down and fumble for a while with my dick. That's just how I was taught to do it" - Rudy Guliani, apparently.

Ridicule, I think we should be ridiculing all of the bullshit coming out of this administration.

I am so mad that Americans were too stupid and apathetic to not vote this guy in again.

I get it, you’ve all got your excuses, cost of living, Israel, whatever, but at the end of the day I wish you all a hearty go fuck yourselves.

Fuck every American who voted R or didn’t vote.

Sincerely the rest of the world, and your former friends and allies, who you have thrown by the wayside for absolutely nothing.

apathetic

IIRC, turnout was actually pretty high by US standards.

goes looking

https://www.pewresearch.org/politics/2025/06/26/voter-turnout-2020-2024/

collapsed inline media

The 2020 and 2024 presidential contests were among the highest-turnout elections in the past century. The 66% turnout rate in 2020 was the highest since 1908, and 2024’s rate of 64% was the second highest, tied with 1960. The last two midterm elections also featured unusually high turnout levels, with rates not seen since the 1960s.

2020 being Trump Attempt #2 and 2024 being Trump Attempt #3.

Now, you could take issue with a broader level-of-turnout issue in US elections

some countries, especially those with mandatory voting, have significantly higher turnout levels. But I don't think that this is a matter of people just not caring, not relative to other elections.

That's not draining the swamp... He's expanding it!

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 17 points 3 days ago (1 children)

He is draining a useful ecosystem that Republicans describe as a terrible thing and paving over it with the cheapest materials possible.

[–] cosmicrookie@lemmy.world -3 points 3 days ago (2 children)

The swamp is by definition not a useful ecosystem

Drain the swamp is a political phrase used as a metaphor for getting rid of corruption, waste, and the improper influence of special interests and lobbyists in government. The "swamp" refers to the entrenched political system and bureaucracy, and "draining" it implies a commitment to foundational reform and clean-up.

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 6 points 3 days ago

"Draining the swamp" in the political context is referring to gutting public safety nets like SNAP benefits, affordable healthcare, and government safety oversight so they can give the wealthy tax breaks. The swamp is the working parts of government being demonized as if supporting the general public is not a useful ecosystem.

That description is what Repiblicans said it meant, but what I wrote is what they actually meant based on every single thing they have done while using the phrase. Like how they say they want to enforce fair elections while suppressing the vote and claiming there is widespread voter fraud despite decades of evidence that it barely ever happens.

[–] mhague@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

That's basically the AI definition given by DDG.

But nobody uses the phrase like that. When Reagan said he was draining the swamp, and his followers repeated the line, what do you think they said? Probably some shit like, "let's make the government more efficient."

Ok. Fine. That actually fits the phrase, even if Reagan was lying and giving corpos more control.

But 40 years later when you ask someone what they mean by "drain the swamp" and they express ideas of... imprisoning Democrats, getting rid of the big Jews, dismantling the liberal deep state.

People used "literally" sarcastically / for effect, and dictionaries added a new definition. So I think it's fair to add a new definition for "drain the swamp" when people use it to mean "get rid of liberals."

The technical term is dewatering the swap. Allows for the construction equipment to dig out the expansion and place caissons for the underwater Epstien ballroom and Thiel \ Ellison memorial.

Plot twist: Rudy declines the pardon, because when his lawyer advises he can't take the fifth anymore, Rudy thinks he'll have to quit vodka.
