You don't need an ID to buy groceries, but you better have an ID to walk to the grocery store. Otherwise, folks with no ID whatsoever will kidnap you without due process.

[–] sheridan@lemmy.world 22 points 1 day ago (4 children)

I vaguely remember as a kid my parents being asked to show their ID at the grocery store when paying with a credit card. I think they were checking that the names matched.

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah, there was a time you would verify the cards weren't stolen. But that was usually store policies.

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 8 points 1 day ago

It was always a business policy, not a government one like the requirements for buying liquor or cigarettes.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Wait is that where Trump is pulling the grocery ID shit from, I kinda remember that being a thing for cards but I knew it was just for cards. Did his stupidity and/or dementia fuck up that concept so he now thinks you need an ID for the grocer.

[–] miked@piefed.social 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Who knows where he got it from. He's never bought his own groceries.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Sure but he does consume media, presumably he saw a show where they did a credit card check or some shit.

[–] miked@piefed.social 4 points 1 day ago

He said the same thing in Season 1.

He must have seen the response to it then so he forgot.

[–] Tujio@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You think he's ever bought his own groceries?

No but I know he watches brain rot TV and probably has for decades. Something will make its way into his empty fucken skull.

[–] LordCrom@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Back then, where you normally would sign on a credit card, many many people would write "see picture id" instead.

Honestly, if 1 of 50 checkout people asked for a picture id, i would be surprised. No one cared then either.

"Papers pllleeeeeeease give us a reason to shoot you." 😏

“All we want is voter ID, you go to a grocery store, you have to give ID, you go to a gas station, you give ID, but for voting, they want no voter ID. It’s only for one reason, and it’s because they cheat. We would pass that in 15 minutes,” Trump ranted, seeming to slur his words at times. “If you don’t get it, you’ll never pass that. You’ll never talk about mail-in ballots. Mail-in ballots make it automatically corrupt.”

Donald hasn’t been to a grocery store in 60 years. Give him a break!

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 28 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Doubt he ever step inside one. This motherfucker so fucking privilege it hurts.

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago (2 children)

He went to a McDonalds once.

[–] Tolookah@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 1 day ago

"do you know who I am?". "Uh, no sir". "Here, look at my ID!"

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Yes and that McDonald's should of had the store immediately closed due to health code violations. That so stupid and fucking gross. I swear I wish I could figure out how anyone could vote for him, or think he is great.

[–] Catma@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

It 100% is just this if he ever did

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 33 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I mean, if you're 79 years old and still writing checks they ask for ID...

[–] Typhoon@lemmy.ca 24 points 1 day ago (1 children)

There's a sign up at his local store:

Do not accept cheques from this man

[–] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If you ever get one from him be sure to fire up the bank app and deposit it before he leaves. Or only take cash, but wash it first because it's probably covered in blow and underage child DNA.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Personal checks can still bounce after being deposited.

I would demand a cashier's check.

I wouldn't accept one of his checks even with an I.D.

[–] spongebue@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Pretty sure he said that in season 1 too. I would say these writers need some original content but so far what they've done for season 2 has been even worse

[–] Tolookah@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Even adding a beard didn't help this season 2

[–] RaoulDuke85@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago

Thats gold Jerry! Gold!

[–] aramis87@fedia.io 16 points 1 day ago (2 children)

All we want is voter ID, you go to a grocery store, you have to give ID, you go to a gas station, you give ID, but for voting, they want no voter ID.

A) I don't need an ID for gas or groceries; B) Buying gas and groceries aren't Constitutional Rights.

[–] SuiXi3D@fedia.io 9 points 1 day ago (2 children)

C) Access to food and transportation are fundamental human rights.

[–] NABDad@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I'd be with you for food, but I would say the fundamental human right to transportation doesn't extend beyond feet.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago

I think people should have a right to transportation of some kind, like a bus pass, but being able to drive yourself isn't a fundamental right. A lot of people are driving that shouldn't be

[–] grue@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

"Gas" != transportation. Ride a fucking bike!

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 2 points 1 day ago

Great solution for a small part of the US population. The country is designed around car transport, it's a dead end forced on us long ago. Few cities have (and can have) adequate mass transit that serves even a fraction of the area. I'm anti-car too, but also realize that it's how things work for most people. So yes, fuel or transportation infrastructure is a right as long as people have to get around to survive.

Voting isn't a constitutional right either, we haven't been able to get them to codify it yet.

[–] Bronzebeard@lemmy.zip 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

He said this like 6 years ago, too. So, not necessarily a sign of dementia. Just chronic affluenza.

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah the only thing in the past 15 years that you use an ID to purchase at a grocery/gass station is alcohol, which he supposedly doesn't drink.

Unless maybe he's addicted to playing the lottery?

[–] Bronzebeard@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 day ago

He's never been in a grocery store in his life.

[–] blattrules@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

This guy doesn’t learn anything from his past mistakes.

[–] devolution@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Only to buy alcohol. I dont need a state ID to buy fried chicken. I'm black. I get a piece for free.

[–] Steve@startrek.website 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Kids get a free cookie, I don’t see why not.

Okay grandpa, let’s get you to bed.

[–] Triumph@fedia.io 1 points 1 day ago

The only place I go where I have to show ID is the range.
