Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.

We require the headline match the article, please make it match or we'll have to remove it.

[–] Quexotic@infosec.pub 22 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Sometimes publications change the hed on internet articles post publication. I suspect that's what happened here.

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 5 points 20 hours ago

Yup, which is why I always give folks time to change it instead of kneejerk pulling it.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 7 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Titles of articles are not written by the article writer, for some reason. They often change.

Welcome to the internet! Have a look around…

[–] Quexotic@infosec.pub 2 points 19 hours ago

I know, right? So I read this article on gooners the other day.. I don't know why. It was just as gutwrenching as I expected...

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 88 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Not just that...

JD Vance's brother lost Mayor of Cincinnati to Aftab Karma Singh Pureval.

You just know that one pisses off the white house.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 2 points 22 hours ago

As long as he can bail out La-Z-Boy, he'll be ok.

[–] oxysis@lemmy.blahaj.zone 81 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Don’t forget Dick Cheney fucking off for good, I count that as win too

[–] Bahnd@lemmy.world 33 points 1 day ago

This all happened in 24-hours. Nature is healing.

[–] HumanOnEarth@lemmy.ca 21 points 1 day ago

This has truly been a positive day for the world

Prop LL and MM both ~~passing~~ PASSED in Colorado!

The two ballot measures would fund free meals for all public school students, give raises or stipends to cafeteria workers and provide grants to schools to purchase fresh ingredients from local farmers.

If there’s money left over from the taxes the two measures bring in, the funding could help shore up the SNAP program, also known as food stamps, for low-income families in the face of federal cuts.

We passed lunches for everyone in Minnesota a few years ago and even though our family has been fortunate enough to be able to afford lunches for our kids before, it is wonderful to know that every kid is provided breakfast and lunch now for free. Done. No more of that “not enough money in your account, guess you get a bologna sandwich, not the meal everyone else gets” bullshit.

[–] negativenull@piefed.world 12 points 1 day ago

Lunches have been free the last few years, from combo of federal and state budget reshuffling. This makes it permanent.

[–] spongebue@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I am so used to being disappointed in Aurora politics, and they're still counting, but Danielle Jurinsky (the councilwoman who sprouted all that bullshit about Venezuelan gangs taking over the city) is in third place in a race with 2 seats open. I was resigned to her getting reelected when I saw her term was up, but right now I have this feeling of post-election happiness I haven't felt in a while.

[–] negativenull@piefed.world 8 points 23 hours ago

And it's official! She came in 3rd!!!

[–] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 42 points 1 day ago (7 children)

Hm.. it's almost like if you want change, you need to vote. Sitting out or spoiling your vote doesn't do much more than literally nothing.

Who knew? Apparently all it needed was a little pain and chaos, the loss of healthcare, snap, LGBT rights, a felon in the Whitehouse ignoring congress and the judiciary, a stacked supreme court, a govt shutdown, unemployment. Inflation, high grocery prices, extrajudiciary assassinations of foreign nationals, coercion of foreign policy, open interference in another countrys elections, censorship of the media, restarting of nuclear tests, literal demolition of parts of the office of the executive branch, ...

But I'm sure all of that was only a distraction from what was really happening.

Now, where are those Epstein files?

I'll never get over these type of comments in political communities...

It's like going to a baseball game in person and complaining that broadcast viewership numbers are down...

We're not the "casual market" absolutely no one who needs to be told that is here or will ever see those comments.

But we're the ones voting in primaries, we're supposed to be picking the candidate most likely to represent the will of the Dem voter base.... We're more GMs than hardcore fans.

As a whole, the politically active members of the Dem party who vote in primaries have not been making good enough selections to convince the "casuals" to vote in the general.

Shitting on absentee people who can't defend themselves may feel good, but why wouldn't we use these spaces to talk about what works?

Which in this case is increasing Dem primary turnout as much as possible to ensure candidates like Mamdani keep making it to the general...

[–] Ryanmiller70@lemmy.zip 12 points 1 day ago

The thing is Mamdani and others have put in the work to get the attention of voters that normally don't care. His platform was more universally liked and was viewed as the person trying to get people what they needed instead of just being another "lesser evil". If the Dems want more of that, then they need more like him and less like Biden, Hillary, and Harris. Establishment Dems won't get this kind of turnout.

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world 6 points 22 hours ago

Who knew that when trustworthy politicians with real change proposal participate the turnout increase. Which most countries lack right now

[–] Grimy@lemmy.world 3 points 21 hours ago

One candidate is clearly corrupt, serving only the oligarchs and foreign genocidal nations. People stay home.

One candidate clearly shows he is listening and cares about his voters. People show up to vote.

[–] neon_nova@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago

Like you said, you need to vote… so if they can’t vote then they can’t come out. Duh!

Nothing has changed just yet, besides who's at the desk. Get organized! Get involved in your community, run in the midterms!

Yeah it's amazing that people go out and vote when, you know, there are actually primaries and the Democratic Party runs candidate that the constituencies actually want. Who could have known?

[–] HumanOnEarth@lemmy.ca 24 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This is great, and we should definitely all be happy. It's a positive sign.

That said, this will merely cement in MAGA's mind that the only path left for them is consolidating power, and FAST, as they will never win fair midterms.

Don't fool yourself - they know their goose is cooked as soon as they lose power. So you're going to see an acceleration because of today's elections, not a come to Jesus moment for MAGA.

[–] aceshigh@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Absolutely. They still have more temper tantrums left in them. And it will get worse before it gets better. I hope to live long enough to at least see universal healthcare.

[–] LaunchesKayaks@lemmy.world 22 points 1 day ago (1 children)

My deeply red town voted in all dems for positions of power. I've never been more surprised.

[–] atmorous@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Whoa which state? Thats nuts!! Read my comment on this post too Ohio and Florida are both jumping ship too

Wonder what other states will as well

[–] LaunchesKayaks@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Pennsylvania. My town is specifically in a rural part of SW PA.

Looks like my entire county flipped!

I'm hopeful for the first time in a looooong time.

[–] atmorous@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Keep up your hope mate we got this!!

Read goodgoodgood.co article talking about a Study on Hope that was done couple months ago. Most important thing to have

Also get active!! And get more Pennsylvania people active too. Every state is actively getting more people doing consistently

It's a whole movement wherever you look online. Try to join clmmunities in-person amd online and roll on forward

Together we can all do anything!!!

[–] LaunchesKayaks@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I've been making plans to go out and help the cause. It's been hard because I'm barely surviving with the income I make and my health has been pretty bad. I do remind everyone I know to vote and I provide information on things to those people so they can make informed decisions. I'm going to look into online stuff that I can do to help and I'm going to the next No Kings thing

[–] atmorous@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Ask everyone you know and are getting to know for work. I'm very certain multiple people will be willing to offer a job that pays better. You got this! Referrals are biggest thing to help get better paying work quick. Be personable and so many doors open. Keep going you will get better!!

Try to push for No Kings in your areas to help with making national daily protests a reality sometimes. Take breaks for your health amd enjoy life as much as you can

I'd say focus more on your health and income to be stable. Prefer that instead of everything else above that I said. I'll encourage other Pennsylvania people and continue to get other people in current and neighboring states as well

[–] LaunchesKayaks@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I'm already looking for a better job. My current job is so goddamn toxic. It's hard because the market for my kind of work is ABYSMAL. I have all of my friends asking their employers for things and I'm considering taking up an easy part time gig on weekends if I can get back in with the nonprofit I worked for in college

-Spanberger's missed opportunity during her victory speech

[–] jtj4135@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 20 hours ago)

I guess the National Guard and ICE will now be sent to Cincinnati out of spite..

[–] Jaysyn@lemmy.world 1 points 15 hours ago

Alternatively, normal people just hate Trump & his lackeys because they are obviously trying to speed run the destruction of America.

[–] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world -4 points 1 day ago

You're wrong. If that was the case, the other areas would show similar levels of apathy as 2024. Hate to break it to you, but run of the mill Dem candidates won in most of the other elections this time. IMO, it's more likely that the pain is starting to compel the voters to the polls. All I have to say is finally. Just don't drop the ball again.
