I hate that. I also hate when my phone capitalizes everything it decides is a proper noun or a title name or the name of a band.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 13 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Fr. There is no reason it should be capitalizing every instance of the word "internet" and yet, it really thinks it should.

I wanna know who the fuck programmed the default dictionary. Because they fucking suck.

[–] SeductiveTortoise@piefed.social 5 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Sometimes. my. phone. thinks. that. after every word I dictate it, it should add a full stop. Or at least on the first part of the sentence. Only dog knows why.

Have you tried disabling Shatner Mode in the settings?

It doesn't have one 😭

Worthless piece of software!

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 2 points 5 days ago

I have the opposite problem, dictation never adds any punctuation unless I say it, which is almost as annoying period

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 1 points 5 days ago

Why? It's a proper noun.

[–] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 15 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I fight this cunt every day. He's the boulder of sisyphus

[–] tracelr402@piefed.blahaj.zone 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

You know, you can turn him off in the settings

[–] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Okay. I was bluffing. It's swipe-to-text and I shouldn't be using it anyway but I started years ago and now I can't stop. I just wanted to be included too and I didn't want people to know that I type my badly written comments using spyware.

[–] tracelr402@piefed.blahaj.zone 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

There, there. You can let it all out 🥹

[–] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 6 points 5 days ago

Sometimes it makes me use the wrong "there" or type a a word twice 😭 and I look like a total doofus. Also I'm on multilingual so it keeps making all my a's into å. I don't even speak a language with å

As a German, I hate that "im" is always going to be corrected to "I'm" if you do write de/en.

Im is like at the moment or inside, used very frequently. So it's hellishly annoying to have to watch for that all the time.

in gboard, at least, you can set two dictionaries for the same keyboard, which I think should theoretically prevent that from happening. If you're using an iphone or another keyboard an equivalent feature might exist.

I know you're probably just ranting but I'm going to say this anyway because I, too, had the same issue before discovering this

gboard

If you haven't considered it already, please consider switching to a open source keyboard that doesn't collect all your typing data like heliboard

[–] DanVctr@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 days ago

Also recommending Futo keyboard (in the Play store or their website) for the same reason!

Futo uses an offline LLM for text/speech predictions so your data never leaves your device.

I remember that I tried it a while ago and there was something that prevented me from actually changing. However, I tried it again now and although I don't remember what that feature was it doesn't seem to be missing anymore so I think that I'm going to try using it from now onwards!

[–] Strider@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I'm stuck (mentally) with SwiftKey. The language is shown as de/en.

Is there a possibility too?

[–] beegnyoshi@lemmy.zip 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

go to swiftkey > language > add language and it looks like simply adding a german keyboard should do the trick.

It says:

Multilingual: You can type in any installed language that is supported by your current keyboard layout without the need to switch keyboards.

[–] Strider@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

Ah OK yes thanks I think I misunderstood.

Is there a way to use it without it changing im to I'm all the time.

[–] LadyButterfly@reddthat.com 2 points 5 days ago

This made me snort nice one

[–] Mossheart@lemmy.ca 1 points 5 days ago

Even got his name wrong. It's autoCORRUPTOR.
