Interesting enough, as annoying as Google is about that, I can still access Google Drive documents through Fennec browser (Firefox fork), even on devices never signed into Google (including this one).

It's sure annoying as hell though...

I recently started getting share.google links to web articles from my parents. I asked them to just give me the direct link instead, but I'm sure Google is making that as unintuitive to the user as possible. I'm not even sure where exactly these links come from.

Google search app, and Google news, I'm pretty sure.

If you search from the "google search app" or the home screen seach bar on most android phones, it's very very difficult to get real links.

None of the URL cleaner tools I've found are able to resolve them to the real destination either.

You can tap the three-dots menu in webview -> Open in Chrome -> Share from Chrome. It's not exactly intuitive to explain how or why to do it to non-technical people though. Annoying as fuck

You'll need about 99 more domains

yeah except things aren't the first result on Google anymore

I haven't fully switched away yet, and when I'm "just doing a quick search" on something I just use the address bar in Chrome sometimes. I did this a few times yesterday on several different topics, and the results were fucking useless. searched the exact same terms with duck duck go, and oh what do you know I found exactly what I was looking for

stop using google

You do know that Chrome is Google, don't you?

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 days ago

yes that's why I gave an example of using it and it being terrible...

Even with duck duck go and a plugin to block websites from the search results I still spend litteral hours sifting through all the bullshit.

That's why my last two phones had LineageOS support at the time when I bought them

It may just be because I am an idiot but I read: „Three be here.“ at first
