The way the item has developed since yesterday, it has already been debunked that the monkeys are "infected". Just more sensationalist fear-mongering in a sensationalist fear-mongering internet hysteria anti-culture.
On the other hand... Mississippi Herpes Monkeys is a pretty good band name.
