He also tried to downplay Trump’s taunts about Canada becoming the 51st state, describing it as a term of endearment

hah yeah ok. get fucked USA

The correct response would be to expel their ambassador.

No neoliberal will ever have the balls to do such a thing, though.

[–] MyBrainHurts@piefed.ca 9 points 1 day ago

No reasonable Canadian government would.

I hate it but goddamn, America buys about 3/4 of our exports and has a capricious leader who flipped shit over a tv ad. There's a fine balance but video game big man moves are not a winning strategy.

[–] 1985MustangCobra@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

no they wont.

Are we supposed to bow down and accept what this stupid administration wants us to do!? MAGA idiots are so out of touch! Frankly, It's embarrassing! Some of the nicest people I met overseas recently were Americans and nothing but apologies for the behavior of their White House was offered. Real Americans get it, this administration does not!

[–] Atelopus-zeteki@fedia.io 19 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Trust me, it's way beyond embarrassing to the South of Canada. That's why 8 million people protested on No Kings Day. Our government has been taken over by fascists. Our government is literally planning to start starving poor people when they let SNAP go unfunded November 1. SNAP is a food program for people in need. They've shut down the government over a spending bill, and won't even negotiate with the opposition party, to pass a bill that opens the federal government. It's bad, and any sane person is deeply worried. smh.

Cool, now do the No King thing on a week day so there is an actual economic impact to the protest.

Otherwise, your efforts will continue to be ignored by the mango Mussolini

[–] Atelopus-zeteki@fedia.io 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'll quote myself, " It's bad, and any sane person is deeply worried. smh." And ask, because this affects the entire world, what are you doing, friend?

[–] Jhex@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Boycotting anything USA and doing what I can so my own government does not fall in the hands of the tRump wannabe PP.

Canadians (or the rest of the world), all splashed by the walking diarrhea Americans voted as president TWICE, do not bear the responsibility to fix this for you

[–] Atelopus-zeteki@fedia.io 1 points 1 day ago

Thanks for all you do. We only have this one planet, we share together.

Oh yeah, and welcome to the Fediverse.

I met overseas recently were Americans and nothing but apologies for the behavior of their White House was offered. Real Americans get it, this administration does not!

The problem is that those "real" americans won't move a finger or sacrifice a wet cracker to fix the issue.

Hey Pete Hoekstra, I hope you take a hockey puck to the lips. Fuck you if you think we're going to bend over for your grift.

[–] Jhex@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm sure 100% of his meals are served with an unrequested side of spit

[–] Thedogdrinkscoffee@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Waiter: The soupe-du-jour today is split pee soup. Can I tempt you, Monsieur?

Hoekstra: No thanks, my last order didn't sit too well with me. Let's try something new.

Waiter: May I tempt you with a poo poo plater? Ezz a verry fresh today.

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Must be stressful, to be amongst a population that just has no passion for a relationship with your country.

2 in the thoughts, 1 in the prayers, sir. And the same to each and every one of the miserable, misbegotten citizens you represent.

[–] FreeBooteR69@lemmy.ca 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

He needs to be made persona non grata and expulsed from Canada.

[–] MyBrainHurts@piefed.ca 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Honestly, probably means we're doing things right.

I'm pretty okay trusting an actualll businessman and world class economist like Carney negotiating with America and negotiating hard for a good deal rather than a flashy but less beneficial deal.

And if the person with whom we are negotiating is angry, probably means we're playing hard ball properly.

Hoekstra's job performance also came up during Trump's meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney at the White House earlier this month.

"I want to just acknowledge our great ambassador," Trump said at one point in the Oval Office, gesturing in Hoekstra's direction.

"Is he doing a good job? ... Otherwise, I'll get him out of there."

So that seems simple enough.

How did I know that name? Ohhh.

Hoekstra was the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee from 2004 to 2007.

Yeah. Now I remember.

False claims about WMDs in Iraq

Hoekstra was a proponent of the claim that the Saddam Hussein regime in Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction (WMDs), and held onto this belief even after no WMDs were found in the wake of the Iraq invasion.

In 2006, Hoekstra made headlines by announcing at a press conference in the Capitol that weapons of mass destruction had been located in Iraq in the form of 500 chemical weapons. However, the weapons in question were defunct munitions, manufactured prior to the 1991 Gulf War and which had been scattered throughout Iraq.

Right. That fuckin’ guy. Catapult him into the sun, please.

Hope he dies angry.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 2 points 22 hours ago

They should have kicked him out of the meeting unless and until he could talk like a grown-up.

[–] IndridCold@lemmy.ca 1 points 23 hours ago

Canada should declare Hoekstra as a carcinogen and ban his use in the country.
