That’s not even an opinion anymore, it’s just an accurate description of events in the country

[–] SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 77 points 2 days ago (5 children)

Except a third or more of that 80% thinks the crisis is the "violent radical left antifa superpredators."

[–] TheFogan@programming.dev 30 points 2 days ago

I think the one thing both sides are fully aware of, we live in vastly different realities.

The only way out is;

  1. Landslide against Republicans for 2026 MidTerms.
  2. Landslide agains Republicans in 2028; to the point where they no longer exist.
  3. New progressive Democratic Party.
  4. Landslide against Right-Wing Democrats in 2030 Midterms
  5. Landslide against Right-Wing Democrats in 2032.
[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 63 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That's assuming that America is going to have free and fair elections (if at all) ever again.

[–] Salvo@aussie.zone 24 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I admit that that is a pretty big assumption, but I do have faith in the people.

It may be misplaced faith.

We already don’t have them.

What if 8 years of election fraud bullshit was the setup to poison the waters when they actually use the techniques?

This is Russian psyops 101: play/fund both sides so when both are revealed corrupt, the populace is too confused to know what’s real.

So republicans say, for years, “Your Russian election claim is a hoax!” And then we get, “They stole the 2020 election!”

Now we have more statistical information showing signs of manipulation, but because Republicans have called out their opponent as manipulating elections, researchers are afraid too report facts based on voting tabulation.

We are in crisis. The country is socially fractured. We’ve been manipulated by our enemy (Russian oligarchs/mob/Putin). They repeated the lies enough that MAGA will believe any dumb shit while Democrats look like they are using Republican insults or tactics.

We’ve all been duped.

[–] Xanthobilly@lemmy.world 18 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I’m pretty certain the 2024 election was rigged.

Famously, the way out of fascism has not been through democratic means. Fascist dictators tend to rig the democratic process to the point where it is obviously no longer democratic. The US has been seeing this since the founding of the country (electoral college, gerrymandering, voter suppression, 3/5ths compromise, lack of any federal direct ballot initiatives, mass propaganda campaigns like the Red Scare, etc.), but has only accelerated as more time has gone on, but more extreme contemporary examples would be countries like Russia, North Korea, or China.

The US also has a two party state due to the first past the post voting system that only accelerates this process faster, as the two parties are both corporate parties, and no party represents the will of the workers/lower classes.

Capitalists and fascists alike will do anything and everything in their power to both maintain and expand their power. The only exceptions are when there are mass, well-organized protests/uprisings/boycotts, but the corporations/the state also controls the media and now also the majority of the Internets' communication services when "Web 2.0" started replacing less centralized services, making mass organization much more difficult.

It's definitely not going to be that easy

[–] ceenote@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

And even if it were, we definitely aren't going to get all those things.

I am surrounded by engineers and scientists.. more than half of them dont vote beacause " this does not affect me". Frustrates me so much. This are educated people, relatively speaking. Maybe because they are still well-off economically? I don't know. I don't understand how they are so uninterested.

[–] Someonelol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 44 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The engineers and scientists in my neck of the woods are very concerned about the shit that's going on. The unionized floor techs on the other hand lean far more favorably to the orange dolt.

[–] Whostosay@sh.itjust.works 28 points 2 days ago (4 children)

Do you work at a shooting yourself in the foot factory or something? How the fuck could you be in a union and support Donald fucking trump or anyone associated with him?

[–] FatCrab@slrpnk.net 20 points 2 days ago (1 children)

This is pretty common in the US unfortunately. Lots of union leadership and membership both lean hard right. Part of it is due to reactionary thinking and constant propaganda, and part is due to lots of people just being fucking stupid and illogical.

[–] tempest@lemmy.ca 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

This is not how it's always been.

Unions etc used to be reliably Democratic.

Over time the unions have been hollowed out and the Democratic party has increasing had an image problem.

These lower workers think that the Democrats are only pandering to "woke" problems which that population obviously doesn't think affect them(and in some cases is actually detrimental).

This is not really true but it is what they think and it's one of the reasons Trump does so well in that demographic regardless of what he does.

Hating minorities more than they hate themselves probably helps. Or naïvety. Or both.

Show them this video: https://youtu.be/Ame0j8jbMY4

Then tell them voting is exactly the same as discussing politics.

[–] minkymunkey_7_7@lemmy.world 21 points 2 days ago

The beloved Patriot Act 20 years later.

Göring: Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country.

The funny thing is yes 80% may say that we are in a political crisis. But it depends on which side of the aisle you're on as far as what you consider that political crisis to be. Well yes we may agree there is a political crisis there are many that are calling for stricter controls in many of us that are calling for the leaders to be given the French treatment.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 25 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yet 50% of the 80% won't actually vote.

[–] BanMe@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It's 80% of voters so they already took 1/3 of the country out.

For reference, only 84% of Americans believe the Earth is round. . That this statement has about as much agreement is not surprising, but it's worth keeping in mind that 15%-20% of people are going to disagree with literally any statement you poll them on, even basic facts.

It’s definitely frightening how one “influencer” being killed seems to have made things worse. They not only didn’t learn from the consequences of stoking the flames of divisiveness, but keep piling on the fuel. How does it not hit them that their own actions are what is causing this crisis, and how do they not think it might have gone too far? How are they so cynically exploiting the situation without the slightest hint of awareness that “this could be me next”?

Kirk was the excuse they pounced on - the escalation was coming regardless.

[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 22 hours ago

Conversely, 20% of voters declared legally brain dead.

"People in a burning house believe there might be a fire inside their house"

[–] LoafedBurrito@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago

As designed by the GOP, for the GOP. They are the terrorist organization Donald trump is so worried about, but he keeps mixing it up and calling them "the radical left."

The dementia is spreading across the entire GOP base. They all forgot what being a conservative was.

[–] BrianTheeBiscuiteer@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago

Of voters. If that's the only group that gives a shit we're doomed.

The voters created this mess. The real argument should be for education.

[–] Tiger666@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 days ago

Mass manipulation by social media is why we are where we are. Stupid voters have been around for all of democracy.

Political crisis?!? They just transitioned from a democracy to a monarchist authoritarian regime.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 8 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

What the heck do the other 20% think? All is fine? Or are they just off-grid for months?

[–] Yaztromo@lemmy.world 7 points 23 hours ago

TIL 20% of Americans live in a persistent vegetative state.

Cooked, deepfried.

On July 4, 2026, the ~~US Army~~ [REDACTED]

On July 4, 2026, nothing happened in Lafayette Square, Washington D.C. Absolutely zero university students died. Its was just a routine military parade with tanks. Anyone spreading false rumors is a foreign agent ANTIFA attempting to destablize our big beautiful democracy, and will therefore be charged with "Subversion of State Power". GOD BLESS 'MURICA 👊🇺🇸🔥
