So they've now gotten rid of Colbert and Kimmel, 2 of the most brutally honest guys going after trump. Interesting.

Sooo... I'm guessing the complaints are coming from people who didn't watch it? Because I can't put my finger on anything that was horrible or false or anything.

[–] mitch@piefed.mitch.science 44 points 3 months ago

I'm confident they were just looking for a reason after Colbert. Seth Meyers better use his last few weeks before he gets pinched to come up with a contingency plan, cus this is a fucking crackdown.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 20 points 3 months ago

Both Taco and his cult are whiny little bitches.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 19 points 3 months ago (1 children)

My guess is that the right wing propaganda machine to hide the epstein connections, doesn't want it shown that trump takes kirk lightly and doesn't give a shit about his death. It's hard to keep it going if dear leader doesn't even care.

I've been saying that the billionaires and oligarchs — who own the majority of the S&P500 and political class — WANT fascism for the last 2 decades. They are behind it's political resurgence, globally; most have already publicly stated things that prove they are authoritarian sociopaths (Musk, Thiel, the Koch's, Ellison, Zuck, etc).

This explains why Trump has never seen the invite or a prison cell, despite 100 clear as day felonies, why the Dem establishment has never done more than performative resistance, etc.

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 15 points 3 months ago (1 children)

They always do. When capitalism starts to falter and the public opinion starts to turn on the system the ownership class goes right to fascism to crush the population.

Fucking bitch ass move by a bitch ass corporation capitulating to a bitch ass administration.

[–] hemmes@lemmy.world 14 points 3 months ago

The decision by Nexstar comes as the broadcast station is seeking FCC approval for its $6.2 billion mega deal to acquire Tegna, a deal that would make Nexstar by far the largest owner of local TV stations in the country.

The FCC would have to raise the 40 percent ownership cap in order to let the deal advance.

Quote from The Hollywood Reporter. Just like CBS with Colbert.

[–] crazycraw@crazypeople.online 10 points 3 months ago

I came here to say exactly this.

[–] favoredponcho@lemmy.zip 101 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Washington Post fired its black opinion editor because she quoted Charlie Kirk for saying:

“Black women do not have the brain processing power to be taken seriously. You have to go steal a white person’s slot.”

Let’s stop taking the Washington Post seriously

[–] ohlaph@lemmy.world 15 points 3 months ago

They are basically natuonal enquirer.

I’d argue you could’ve trusted them MORE before the Fairness Doctrine was murdered. Certainly still needed to apply skepticism and discernment though

Those are paraphrases of Kirk's words. It might be more accurate to say those are his positions.

Fascism, folks. Time to resist

[–] potatopotato@sh.itjust.works 8 points 3 months ago (1 children)

But... Someone tried actually resisting and now we're all hand wringing over it...

Even this framing is dishonest - he didn't make comments about Charlie Kirk, he was mocking MAGA for rushing to weaponize his death. ABC shut down his show for a valid criticism of MAGA.

[–] ohlaph@lemmy.world 18 points 3 months ago

Yeah, it's not looking good for them. Everyone is siding with trump in fear of being targeted.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 47 points 3 months ago

They're just getting started. Colbert was fired as a demand to allow the sale of CBS' to Larry Ellison, 2nd richest man, and a vicious MAGA. With Colbert out, the decks were cleared for the sale.

CBS used to have the reputation of being the gold standard of broadcast news. Now it's just going to be one more mouthpiece in the Conservative Propaganda Machine.

Canceled my D+ and Hulu subscriptions and wrote in other:

“Capitulating to Trump’s version of fascist America and knee jerk reaction to Kimmel made me rethink why I should give you my money. I don’t even like or watch Kimmel, but you are allowing free speech to be violated. I don’t support free speech abolitionists.“

We need to start poisoning Disney brands.

Never thought I’d see the day the Mouse wore a swastika.

[–] TheAlbatross@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 3 months ago

Are you kidding? Walt Disney was a virulent anti-semite.

He barely even remarked on it. He said nothing about Kirk himself.

[–] criss_cross@lemmy.world 18 points 3 months ago

Honestly he said more about how little Trump gave a shit about him and how much more Trump cared about his stupid ballroom

[–] MisterOwl@lemmy.world 18 points 3 months ago (2 children)

ABC confirmed fascist propaganda network. Good to know.

Dear USA, fight for your rights. What's happening now reminds me of what happened to Baseem Youssef in Egypt: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-27671642

[–] the_q@lemmy.zip 9 points 3 months ago

No one wants to give up their comforts. We're all just sitting here letting this happen. No one wants to get violent or have a general strike or stop paying taxes or camp out in front of the white house or stop buying shit... We're afraid of losing things that are going to be taken away in the future anyway.

Capitulating to fascists and bullies NEVER ends well...

[–] Psythik@lemmy.world 9 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Well what are the remarks? What a shit article. It's barely longer than a sentence.

[–] Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world 25 points 3 months ago (2 children)

"We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them, and doing everything they can to score political points from it,”

https://www.msnbc.com/top-stories/latest/jimmy-kimmel-pulled-abc-charlie-kirk-nexstar-rcna232036

Also, every headline I've seen portrays it as a comment on Kirk or on the shooting. But it's entirely about the MAGA reaction.

[–] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 15 points 3 months ago

Yeah all the articles are trying to leave out the actual remarks because there isn't anything bad about what he said. Maga just didn't like it.
