The suspect is still at large - officials earlier said they found a high-powered rifle in woods near where Kirk was shot.

Also, "high powered rifle" essentially means "not a 22".

Cartridges with "transgender and anti-fascist" writing on them were found.

Why would somebody smart enough to evade capture, and dump the weapon in the woods, leave a cutesy little note on the cartridge clearly identifying their political beliefs?

Why is this like the 3rd high profile murder that seems to be tipping us towards civil war, where the killer has allegedly done this?

How did that old man end up in handcuffs if this is the guy they were looking for? Why did it take so long to release this image? So many questions.

[–] Lucky_777@lemmy.world 76 points 2 days ago (1 children)

MAGA will use this transgender piece to put all transgender citizens in camps. They already have the camps made. It begins here.

[–] FundMECFS@anarchist.nexus 40 points 2 days ago

They were already going to.

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 53 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Early reporting on stuff like this is almost always wrong, so take it with a grain of salt. We have no idea who is spreading that info and it could very well be intentional misinfo.

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 51 points 2 days ago (2 children)

A week from now it won't matter that the reporting was wrong because it's already fact in the minds of their audience.

Realistically, the minds of the audience were made up before the reporting. ;) The reporting just confirms what they already "know".

Looks like the "engraved cartridges" story is coming from the Wall Street Journal. So, Murdoch.

Cartridges with "transgender and anti-fascist" writing on them were found.

Unsurprisingly, barely any of the media is reporting that correctly.

That's how it was described by government officials when leaked to specific news agencies and kept extremely vague. "Transgender and anti-fascist" writing could mean "we have equal rights" or "gun control is safety" for all we know, but now the narrative is out there for them finding "evidence" that the perpetrator is {insert some trigger word for groups that the right already thinks is trying to destroy them}.

It's a lie. the manufacturer's code "TRN" was on it. That's it

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 27 points 2 days ago (2 children)

How did that old man end up in handcuffs if this is the guy they were looking for?

That was a long time ago, relatively speaking. Well before they had collected any video whatsoever.

Why did it take so long to release this image?

It takes a good deal of time to acquire and scour through all the video available. They initially thought they would be able to identify this person without releasing images, and probably didn't want another lionization as with Not Luigi. I guess that didn't pan out.

Saw that, too. I am reserving my thoughts on that until more information comes out.

[–] Wazowski@lemmy.world 21 points 2 days ago

It’s fucking obvious propaganda bullshit.

[–] FundMECFS@anarchist.nexus 17 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Dumping the weapons in the woods not far from the university is a pretty shit way tbh. Weapons are extremely traceable and contain a shitload of DNA evidence. You’d rather be able to get it further out and dump it with weights into a deep fast flowing river.

[–] N0t_5ure@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago (5 children)

Yeah, that seems like a no-brainer, especially for someone who obviously planned it out and got away. I'm skeptical that whatever they've found is actually the murder weapon.

Hey maybe the McDonalds people could stfu this time

[–] meco03211@lemmy.world 37 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Speaking of the devil. Did any award money in the Luigi case actually get distributed? If not, are there reasonable conditions not met yet?

[–] School_Lunch@lemmy.world 63 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I saw a theory the other day that there was no tip from an McDonald's employee. The authorities might've used some illegal surveillance to find him and just said it was a tip from an employee to avoid acknowledging that.

[–] Kirp123@lemmy.world 36 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

Which is funny because his lawyers will definitely ask for this info in discovery and it will come out anyways. Also if they found him using illegal tech they could argue it in his favor.

[–] dylanmorgan@sh.itjust.works 24 points 2 days ago

The existence of “stingrays” (fake cell towers used to surveil protesters and others) was made public due to legal discovery.

Yeah, if you look, they never actually said it was an employee.

[–] CmdrShepard49@sh.itjust.works 28 points 2 days ago (1 children)

No, the McDonalds worker didn't get the 'reward' money because they called local police instead of the CrimeStoppers number when they reported it.

So a typical deer rifle.

[–] Voroxpete@sh.itjust.works 68 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Even if you really need that $100,000 reward, they'll screw you out of it just like they did that person who reported Luigi Mangione. Collaborating with fascists won't even get you your thirty pieces of silver.

This guy does not appear to be in the woods nor holding a rifle. They arrested an old man who also didn't have a rifle nor was in the woods yesterday.

Maybe they'll just arrest every gun owner within 100 miles of where it was 1 by 1.

They said the person they suspected went out of the woods into a neighborhood, yet these photos aren't from a neighborhood. So where did they come from? (Looks like a staircase at the school maybe?)

Looks like the image release means they weren't successful in their own investigation according to their statements.

[–] MeatPilot@lemmy.world 31 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (4 children)

People need to stop celebrating the shooter! I'm absolutely disgusted and ashamed by their actions. Charlie Kirk was doing nothing but sitting there giving a speech. This was in the middle of the day, there were clear sky's and the sun was shining directly on Charlie, as if he was chosen to deliver an important message. Than the shooter shot at him. I'll say it as it is, nothing was between Charlie and the shooter that warranted this.

So how could the shooter miss the shot at Charlie Kirk's large ass head and hit him in neck instead! Embarrassing, do better on the next fascist.

Bet he's a conservative/magat

[–] Sgt_choke_n_stroke@lemmy.world 25 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

What if this guy's was a conservative that felt betrayed by Kirk's messaging. That would by a twist.

[–] expatriado@lemmy.world 22 points 2 days ago

not a twist, but between expectations

I don't know who he is, but I know he did nothing wrong.

[–] the_q@lemmy.zip 22 points 2 days ago

I'm of the mind that he was a hired gun by a prominent government official to continue the push toward active civil war and distract from the pedo-files.

[–] Ladislawgrowlo@lemy.lol 20 points 2 days ago (6 children)

"Person of Interest" vs Suspect? This sounds like they still need more evidence.

The Luigi snitch didn't get the money.

[–] TipRing@lemmy.world 17 points 2 days ago (4 children)

The evidence they are saying they have isn't much. A blurry photo from a stairwell security camera, some distinctive clothing and palm and forearm prints. None of those things is really actionable without more to go on. Clothes can be destroyed and palm and forearm prints aren't useful for identifying someone (but could be used for confirming an identification if they are of sufficient quality).

Undoubtedly the investigators are not revealing everything they have.
