Couldn’t happen to a better guy. He advocated for guns on campus, and got exactly what he wanted.

He stated that the few shootings were worth it. Not a soul should feel sorry for him.

I’m fairly confidant this is a setup for Trump to start taking away guns, though, not some heroic revolutionary.

That's called irony.

Next up: RFK Jr dies of COVID and Marco Rubio is arrested by ICE for looking too latino.

[–] bamboo@lemmy.blahaj.zone 17 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Isn't it only ironic if the event that happens is opposite of what is expected? He advocated for guns on campus knowing that it would result in shootings and deaths, he just didn't expect it would happen to him.

There are several types of irony (not sure if this just applies to literature.)

Verbal irony is when a person says one thing but means the opposite;

Situational irony is when the reverse of what is expected happens; and

Dramatic irony is when the audience knows something that the characters do not.

This falls under dramatic irony imo

Results unclear, will need more data.

[–] ExtremeDullard@piefed.social 7 points 4 days ago

Exactly.

The same way it's going to be wildly ironic when the ICE Gestapo starts going after MAGA voters.

[–] Xulai@mander.xyz 13 points 4 days ago

We can hope.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Trump almost died of COVID. They really hid how bad it was.

[–] ExtremeDullard@piefed.social 1 points 3 days ago

I never though I'd say I wish COVID did a better job...

I’m excited to see him try. Today there was also another school shooting, and none of them cared.

He also stated he hated the word "empathy" and thought it was a made up "new age" term.

[–] ExtremeDullard@piefed.social 58 points 4 days ago (1 children)

When a MAGA piece of shit gets gunned down, our Dear Leader is tripping over himself to praise the sonofabitch.

But when kids get gunned down at school, not a peep.

You know where the orange utan's sympathies lie. What a nauseating human being...

[–] Boddhisatva@lemmy.world 53 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Hey, I hate Trump as much as the next guy, but I have to correct this. In January of '24, when Trump was on the campaign trail there was a school shooting in Perry, Iowa that took the life of a sixth grader and injured 7 others. After a moment of silence, Trump did come out and make a statement. The moment of silence was 36 hours long and the statement was "get over it", so it would probably be better if he had kept his mouth shut, but there you go. He did make a peep.

Mod opinion: Links to the video not marked NSFW/NSFL will be removed.

My non-mod opinion:

Not going to celebrate, just noting:

"I can't stand the word 'empathy', I think it's a made up New Age term." - Charlie Kirk

Eh. He was disgusting traitor filth. It’s fine to celebrate. Fuck him, I hope he suffered.

[–] sepi@piefed.social 1 points 4 days ago

It was instantaneous.

Does this qualify as a Herman Cain award?

It can qualify for every Nobel prize for all I care as long as the piece of shit stays dead.

[–] just_another_person@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Is this the kick-off? More to come?

[–] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago

Most of my conservative coworkers haven’t even posted anything about his death on Facebook, instead they are posting about how COVID-19 is still being used as a weapon.

I do not condone this type of violence in any way whatsoever. I never liked this guy and he was human garbage, but this is not the answer.

However... I do not feel bad for him or his fans. I feel bad for his kids who had to witness it and will now grow up without a father and I would never wish that upon anyone. Unfortunately, when you base an entire career off of hate you'll only get hate back. We're talking about the same man that said school shootings and people dying from gun violence are necessary sacrifices. The same man that wanted to bail out the guy that assassinated two Democratic lawmakers. The same man that stopped talking about Epstein as soon as Trump came up.

I think political violence is disgusting and a slippery slope to so much worse, but I do not feel bad for this man for facing the consequences of his actions and hate.

[–] drkt@scribe.disroot.org 21 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, political violence is a slippery slope. They should've thought of that when they started it.

[–] TommySoda@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago (2 children)

You're not wrong, they definitely started it. But just because they started it doesn't mean it's all of a sudden a good thing when it happens just because you don't like the guy. You can condone this type of violence and also not feel bad for the guy at the same time. We all know the saying "an eye for an eye makes the world go blind."

[–] SupraMario@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Eye for an eye, only applies if the person taking your eye has empathy. WWII and nazi germany weren't solved with words and discussion.

[–] Goodeye8@piefed.social 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

This "Eye for an Eye" train of thought is how we went from WWI to WWII. Nazi Germany and the WWII they started was caused by the rest of the world wanting to punish Germans for WWI. It could've been solved before it even started if the rest of the world had shown some empathy towards the German people.

I'm not saying we should be flower children who don't believe in violence, but rather that violence is a tool that should be used with extreme caution because violence does breed more violence and the more violence we breed the more normal it becomes. Sometimes violence is necessary, in this case I don't think it was necessary. I'm not going shed any tears for Charlie Kirk. He tried to normalize the exact behavior that got him killed so there's some poetic justice there, but him getting killed this way is not normal and it shouldn't be cheered because at that point you're just doing what Charlie Kirk was doing, normalizing it. Don't be Charlie Kirk, be better.

[–] Auli@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Ok how could the depression be solved in Germany by showing empathy to Germany.

[–] Goodeye8@piefed.social 1 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Post WWI Germany was internationally humiliated. The Treaty of Versaille had, in writing, Germany accepting being the cause of all the loss and damage. The Treaty of Versaille wanted to punish Germans which is why it included the article 231 and an insane amount of concessions and reparations pointed directly at Germany. And the treaty succeeded in its figurative tarring and feathering of Germany.

The Treaty of Versaille, with its clear desire to humiliate Germany, laid the foundation for Nazi Germany. Some people point to the Great Depression as the reason for Nazis to rise to power, and there is some merit there, but the Great Depression was extra damaging for Germany due to the insane war reparations in the Treaty of Versaille. But Nazis gained popularity among the people by taping into that very humiliation the Treaty of Versaille had imprinted on every German. Nazis more or less did MAGA. Hitler promised people solutions to their misfortunes. Promised to undo the Treaty of Versaille. Promised to make the country great again. All the grievances the Treaty of Versaille had pushed upon the German people was used as populist fuel by the Nazis. The great depression sped up the process but the foundation was already there and it most likely would've happened even without the great depression.

Had we been more empathetic when drafting the treaty we might've never gotten Nazi Germany.

[–] Auli@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 days ago

So just talk this out? It wait for trump to die or the next election cycle. Do you know how much damage they can do a d it isn't going to be fixed bu the next president it well take decades to fix.

[–] Auli@lemmy.ca 5 points 4 days ago

Sometimes violence is needed. You know your revolution you guys are so proud of. When rich white guys didn't want to pay taxes. Oh not much has changed.

[–] cabron_offsets@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

It’s high time the traitor filth suffer the fear of the masses.
