Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

So you're the one who stole my bath towel.

[–] Steve@startrek.website 118 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Yes I collect gay bath towels

How can you tell the sexuality of a towel?

edit: I think some people thought I was asking about identifying the gender of the towel. As much as I never thought I'd have to write anything like this sentence: I was asking how to identify the partnership preferred by a towel, rather than anything to do with its hypothetical undercarriage.

[–] toynbee@lemmy.world 10 points 22 hours ago

Wow, toweldar.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 13 points 22 hours ago (3 children)

If you notice they get wet before you've used them to towel off, congrats, they're into you. If they're dry as a bone when you use them, they're really not enjoying it, at all. It's not rocket science.

[–] faythofdragons@slrpnk.net 11 points 21 hours ago

Ugh, I can't believe my towel is only into me after it's been used by my partner.

[–] toynbee@lemmy.world 5 points 22 hours ago

This might help determine whether or not they enjoy the company of a particular gender, but you couldn't use this method to identify, for example, bisexuality. Unless you take group showers, I guess.

Don't tempt them. It's hard enough to cross the street as it is.

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 60 points 1 day ago (1 children)

lol .... conservatives would be the first to happily just get rid of cross walks altogether ... both to not acknowledge LGBTQ+ and also to give more freedom to vehicles and get rid of "pedestrians"

[–] SGforce@lemmy.ca 27 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

A good wholesome road needs to be safe for our traditional family SUVs and free of these dangerous ((pedestrians)).

I like this idea. It’s like depressed version of pride flag, indicating LGBTQ people are repressed and in pain

Perfect for Florida!

[–] Steve@startrek.website 35 points 22 hours ago

Yes, a distress flag

[–] aramova@infosec.pub 41 points 21 hours ago

To be honest those twats would already be on board with that.

"Crosswalks? The fuck, you ain't driving your truck across the street to get there? It too damn far!"

Just adopt red and white stripes. See what they do then

Now we just get the uniforms:

Nobody tell them about the cishet ally flag which is almost exactly this... ;)

[–] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 8 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

Having just checked that flag, damn, we don’t get any fun colors?!?

[–] TheRealKuni@piefed.social 13 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

The ally flag gets fun colors! It’s the black and white background with a rainbow ∧ shape. I wear this as a pin sometimes. Also my favorite restaurant has one hanging proudly inside.

I am 100% in favor of the message behind this flag, but holy crap it's a real eyesore. Same with the Progress Pride flag and some of the other LGBTQ flags. I keep hoping some skilled graphic designers out there will come up with cleaner designs.

[–] Zahille7@lemmy.world 6 points 21 hours ago

Idk, I like the Progress Pride flag. Imo it makes sense and represents pretty much everyone. Yeah it has a lot of colors, but the design itself is pretty straightforward

It’s giving “The Boy in the Striped Pajamas”

[–] empireOfLove2@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah tbh. And it aligns better with the concept of sexuality/gender being more of a spectrum than rigidly designated buckets.

[–] MrScottyTay@sh.itjust.works 40 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Isn't the rainbow meant to represent the spectrum. Like how rainbows show the visible spectrum of light?

Are you trying to get the entire dcip3 banned??

[–] HikingVet@lemmy.ca 21 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I thought of this because of your comment.

Sure it has every color but does it have our specific color?

[–] Bgugi@lemmy.world 4 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah, this flag only shows saturated hues. This is unsaturated erasure.

[–] chellomere@lemmy.world 5 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Might I tempt you with this alternative proposal?

[–] Bgugi@lemmy.world 4 points 16 hours ago

I complain about saturation representation and you reply with a hue-lightness flag. Smh my head.

[–] birdwing@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 23 hours ago

These are all straight lines, give me the real gay flag

[–] NuXCOM_90Percent@lemmy.zip 13 points 1 day ago (2 children)

It... is kind of a giant mess.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rainbow_flag_(LGBTQ) is a good summary but the modern rainbow color scheme is a somewhat recent iteration.

But much as "LGBT" has become "LGBTQ" and "LGBTQIA" and "LGBTQIA+" and so forth, so too have the flag added and removed stripes. And... a lot of that is intentional animosity since a shocking number of LGBTQIA+ folk are actually REALLY bigoted (the old "jokes" about how bisexual people need to "choose a side" and so forth) and it becomes a whole thing.

[–] Cevilia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

I love the intersex-inclusive progress pride flag, which adds designs to the left that explicitly include three under-represented groups (BIPOC, trans+, and intersex).

I once had someone, in earnest, complain at me that if we kept adding chevrons, the flag would have to get wider, and showed me an image that was like 1000 pixels by 20.

And then got mad at me when I asked if I could have that as a scarf :)

[–] birdwing@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 23 hours ago (3 children)

Personally, the way I view it, the rainbow is most flexible, as it literally includes everyone (queer and nonqueer), and the progress pride (as in, pride + triangle with whatever is in there) mostly functions as an acknowledgement of especially repressed groups.

View it like how countries have their national days, or how there are weeks of reading focused on a particular theme or subject (school homework included). That, but for queer stuff.
