Install F-Droid -> install Aurora via F-Droid -> install whatever you want

Also if installing potentially untrusted/corporate apps on Android consider using Insular (Island) to clone and run them in a sandbox so they don't have access to your personal/primary account data.

I also recommend adding the IzzyOnDroid repository, and using NetGuard to isolate applications from network services. NetGuard simply creates a fake VPN entry point that goes nowhere - if you don't want an application to talk to anything outside of your device you turn on NetGuard for it and any outbound traffic gets dumped into a black hole - it's an excellent piece of software. You can even do this to built-in Google applications and various pieces of Android itself, so they never send any data out.

Is there any reason why one would log in with Google on Aurora? Or why they won't let you log in or create an account without google?

Aurora is frontend to the Google Play Store, and Google requires a log in.

If you log in anonymously, you use common Google credentials shared between users of the app.

While this is not ideal (that would be anonymous access to the store) it is the best solution we have.

Basically Aurora has no account system of its own, it's just a way to access the Google Play store without using the Play app. You can either use a Google account or the generic anonymous account.

Only one I know about is accrescent, I don't know if it's European or not, but it's the best we have for android, I think Linux phones use flatpak
