Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

Generally speaking its fine to wash your body with shampoo, its just not good to wash your hair with body soap

[–] Zachariah@lemmy.world 19 points 1 week ago

the real shower thought is always in the comments

[–] teft@piefed.social 2 points 1 week ago

Wait, why not? I wash my hair with bar soap all the time and it seems fine.

[–] ArgumentativeMonotheist@lemmy.world 28 points 1 week ago (3 children)

"Oh we're out of shampoo AND body wash? I guess hand soap it is. 🤷"

Don’t do that unless you only do it once. Adding tap water to dilute your soap can cause it to develop bacterial contamination.

Dude this thread just keeps on giving.

"That's out too? Dish soap it is then."

[–] dohpaz42@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Honestly, sometimes using just water is fine and good for your skin since soap dries it out.

[–] rockerface@lemmy.cafe 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah I have to moisturise my hands every time after shower because my palms get dried up by soap

[–] dohpaz42@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Any tips for moisturizers that don’t leave you feeling even greasier than before you showered?

[–] TheGiantKorean@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

I have been using a shampoo bar recently and love it. It feels like it's going to last forever, and no plastic packaging.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 10 points 1 week ago

You don't get the 6 in one soap, shampoo, conditioner, motor oil, rust remover, and anti-fungal cream?

[–] TigerAce@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 1 week ago

It's soap... What's the issue?

[–] masterspace@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I honestly cannot fathom why people buy body wash... Shampoo is basically the same thing.

[–] sip@programming.dev 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

it's a bit more agressive IMO, it dries up my skin.

[–] realitista@piefed.world 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah it didn't feel quite "right". More filmy, less moisturizing.

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

If you have conditioner it'll help with that. You can mix it in as you lather.

Anyway, scalp is skin, so if it's fine with your scalp it's fine on your skin. Your body hair will be happy too.

[–] parody@lemmings.world 1 points 1 week ago

Guess I’ve never double blind tested them (would need to be careful with scents to avoid spoiling the test)

That said my perception has also been a high-quality moisturizing body wash is less drying than shampoo

Shampoo ? What's that?

People wash their hair waaaay too much. I use shampoo in my hair once a month; the rest of the time I just scrub it with water and my fingers, and I very rarely have dandruff. Mind you, my skin is quite oily, but when I was a teenager with super long hair I washed my hair with shampoo every day and my hair was fried as fuck. Also, I think it contributed a lot to my extremely bad acne, which I almost never get anymore.

[–] TigerAce@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 week ago

I stopped using shampoo completely. Much better, got rid of all the skin issues I had.

[–] Tattorack@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

What's the difference?

Actually look at the ingredients of shampoo vs body wash; they contain the same chemicals, with shampoo containing a few dedicated to hair.

So body wash is shampoo minus the hair chemicals.

I just buy these very large squirt bottles of shampoo and wash my whole body with it. No problem, and much cheaper than buying several "specific" smaller bottles of mostly the same stuff.

My shower gel is rated for hair, face and testicles so I don't need to worry about this.

[–] serenissi@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

doesn't shower gel/body wash automatically mean it's for face and testicle?
