Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed. Sources that have a Low or Very Low factual reporting rating or MBFC Credibility Rating may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF 10/19
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

“Attempting to feed starving people—the nerve of that woman!”
There is something particularly disgusting about how right-wing talking heads have latched onto this fantasy of punishing Greta Thunberg, for many years now.
Itamar Ben-Gvir, Israel’s national security minister, is planning to present Benjamin Netanyahu with a plan to detain the activists in harsh “terrorist-level” conditions in the Ktzi’ot and Damon detention centres for females, according to Israel Hayom, one of Israel’s biggest newspapers.
“Following several weeks at Ktzi’ot and Damon, they’ll be sorry about the time they arrived here. We must eliminate their appetite for another attempt.”
What is wrong with these people? You can literally hear the quickening of their breath when they voice their torture fantasies like that.
The activists were also offered the chance to watch footage of Hamas atrocities from Oct 7, which they refused, according to Israel Katz, Israel’s defence minister.
I heard this one before. Like it was some sort of gotcha. Like anybody even claimed that Hamas killing people is OK.
Fucking perverts.
They acted the same way about Palestinian woman Ahed Tamimi. Her cousin was shot by soldiers. She confronted the soldiers and slapped one in front of reporters. The Israeli far right went wild with outrage in the days after, with op-Ed’s calling for her to be punished for the insult and made an example of, with some even saying she should be sexually humiliated, and her entire family was arrested after the pressure.
They acted the same way
You mean the somehow sexualized punishment fantasies?
Ben Garrison's comic of Greta Thunberg getting spanked (spoiler for your protection):
Spoiler
Yeah I know it (I sure hope you didn't link it from his own site).
But I've seen worse.
Actual...
... rape fantasies drawn on stickers. Long before she even turned 18.
I mean, there's always going to be a couple extreme assholes, but the general stance is surprisingly commonplace and they (men of course) don't seem to realize how transparent it is.
That’s just gonna make her committed.
Seconding the other guy('s sarcasm). I don't think Greta needs any help becoming more committed.
I’m saying…. The act would make here even more committed. The opposite of what Israel would hope for. I’m not saying she’s not very committed. It’s not a criticism of Greta, calm down ASPD
I know you're not criticizing her; I meant more in the sense that turning committed+ into committed++ wouldn't have much practical effect in Greta's case. Id wager that most of what she can realistically do she's already doing.
Great, because her commitment so far has been kinda "meh" 🫳
🙃
Edit: I guess the "🙃" isn't clear enough so: /s
Whose is up to your standards?
I think that must’ve been sarcasm
You would think the "🙃" would have made it obvious. 🐸
The irony is pretty clear - unlike the minds of that sort of commenter who's downvoting finger is a lot (~several weeks) faster than their sarcasm detector. I feel free to say nasty things about rhese spoilsports in this place because I am pretty sure they never made it past the first sentence.
Thanks for the affirmation 😄
So Israel is now announcing its intent to torture EU citizens?
What comes next, invading Cyprus?
Watch as the EU will proceed to do nothing about it.
They will loudly announce that in about 2 month's time they will recognize Greta's right not to be imprisioned but only if she stops proclaiming her innocence.
What comes next, invading Cyprus?
Hey man, next time you're gonna give away the plot or foreshadow, please use a spoiler tag for those who aren't up to date this season
Ahh yes, imprisoning her for the crime of showing empathy. What a bunch ghouls.
Ah yes, because as everyone knows the best way to stop determined activists from talking about your human rights abuses is to show them first hand your human rights abuses. I'm sure they'll just shut up after that.
This is the "stop crying, or I'll give you something to cry about" bad parent approach.
Next will be the "look what you've made me do" abusive partner approach. Classics!
It's almost as if the Israeli government and military are abusers...
You can tell how the Telegraph feels from the juvenile choice of photography that makes her look somewhat bizarre, classic right-wing rag.
Yeah, the photo they choose is always a great litmus test for whether or not the article will be biased in one way or another. If an article has a flattering photo, it’s probably going to be praising the subject of the photo. If it has them looking silly, (and to be clear, in this photo Greta looks like she’s failing to hold in a fat shit while she waddles to the toilet), then it’ll probably be critical of them.
Made the mistake of looking at the comments before realising it was a Telegraph article.
This would only vindicate her.
My guess is that these extreme right-wing politicians have their fan base in Israel who will clap (and enjoy the righteous feeling of punishing a woman who deserves it stirring their loins). And that's who the speeches are for.
And maybe they haven't realized that the whole world is listening to their disgusting display of savagery now.
For the sake of Palestinians I hope they figure it out soon, although it would be nice to see them walk deeper into the trap they set for themselves.
[ I got distracted. This was supposed to be a direct reply to your statement - now it's indirect. ]
This is meant to scare her and her people, that's it. If they really wanted to kidnap her it sure as fuck wouldn't be projected on the news lmao
Besides, kidnapping someone like Greta is bound to start massive movement and might actually force Europe to actually do something.
I doubt Israel want to stir that pot. They'll probably scare them off again and call it a win.
Eliminate her appetite for another attempt just means they fully intend on letting her go.
It is well known that Israel engages in systematic torture of captives.
We must eliminate their appetite for another attempt
instead of "it is advisable to discourage future attempts" that could be a more professional strategic tone... their language sound to me more like a mob boss in a mafia film, I am probably biased, yes, but that's the tone I would identify among fascists rather than among objective beings handling a problem, full of passionate words as if their strength would be based on that... anyway.
I know it's the Torygraph, and the media always use the worst possible photo when it's people they don't like, but come on...
They've made the poor girl look like Dana Carvey taking a shit.
