Which is, of course, fundamentally unideal if not antiquated.

You can have non-alphanumeric characters on license plates? What do the cops do if they need to catch you? Do they put out an APB for emoticons?

[–] azi@mander.xyz 0 points 2 months ago (5 children)

Use the cyrillic letter А on your licence plate instead of the latin letter A. All your speeding tickets would be mailed to someone else

[–] Venator@lemmy.nz 0 points 2 months ago

Or the 🅰️ emoji

[–] abfarid@startrek.website 0 points 2 months ago

It seems that everybody who doesn't know Cyrillic thinks that Д is the Cyrillic A...

[–] dreadbeef@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 2 months ago

Meanwhile, the guy in ~~the slave labor camp~~ prison making your license plate: "Alright, thats an A, I'll key in an A here"

[–] Wizard_Pope@lemmy.world 0 points 2 months ago

You do know the cyrillic A is just А(serbian) or А(russian)??

[–] xthexder@l.sw0.com 0 points 2 months ago

They already consider similar looking letters as the same. If someone has the license plate "OOPS" , if you try and register "00P5" it will say it's taken.

Like the guy with the NULL plate who got all the tickets for which no number could be found.

[–] null@lemmy.nullspace.lol 0 points 2 months ago

Truly a tragic tale.

This username means you also get "mentioned" a lot in big chatrooms where people post code/logs

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 0 points 2 months ago

Honestly, as annoying as that'd probably be, it'd also be great. You could likely argue any ticket was a mistake.

I read an article once about a guy who got a NO PLATE licence plate and ended up being automatically blamed whenever a cop wrote in that a car had no licence plate. I wonder what 0X00000 would do.

[–] ArbitraryValue@sh.itjust.works 0 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I think that's what I was actually thinking of but I mixed it up.

[–] xthexder@l.sw0.com 0 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

They both seem equally plausible. "NO PLATE" would be officers writing it in, and if they left it blank the computer would turn it into NULL.

I bet "BLANK" could cause similar issues

[–] HBK@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I don't think you can? But, you can use a space and add an equal sign sticker instead

[–] DontRedditMyLemmy@lemmy.world 0 points 2 months ago

Are stickers allowed?

[–] frezik@lemmy.blahaj.zone 0 points 2 months ago

Fucking nerds think you're so smart. Now excuse me, I need to figure out why my engine is knocking.

[–] finitebanjo@piefed.world 0 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Yeah the Ideal Gas Formula is cool but what about the Ideal Electric?

[–] potoo22@programming.dev 0 points 2 months ago
[–] j4k3@lemmy.world 0 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Lotus Evora in Alabama? Wat?

[–] three@lemmy.zip 0 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Are you only allowed to own certain cars in certain states?

[–] j4k3@lemmy.world 0 points 2 months ago

Super rare cars in the poorer states, where nonconformity is treated like cancer?

[–] CH3DD4R_G0BL1N@sh.itjust.works 0 points 2 months ago

If this plate is legit not photoshopped, it’s a strong possibility someone working at NASA MSFC drives it.

[–] kerrigan778@lemmy.blahaj.zone 0 points 2 months ago (1 children)

You're a PVnRT aren't you 😏

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 0 points 2 months ago

Crank up the heat and put me under full body pressure, cuz I'm about to blow. 😏

[–] Eheran@lemmy.world 0 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Would be even better if the capitalization was correct. Always bugs me when people capitalize units wrong, but in this case it might have been mandatory.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 0 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Have you ever in life seen lower case on a license plate? From any country?

[–] ChaoticNeutralCzech@feddit.org 0 points 2 months ago

Not from any countries that signed the Vienna Convention on Road Traffic

[–] Eheran@lemmy.world 0 points 2 months ago

I have never seen an equal sign on any licence plate or road sign. What is your point? I already mentioned that too.

[–] glowing_hans@sopuli.xyz 0 points 2 months ago (2 children)

for those who do not get it, this is a reference to the ideal gas law pV = nRT the fac that at equal pressure and temperature the same number of gas molecules (ideal gas) will take the same Volume.

[–] FilthyShrooms@lemmy.world 0 points 2 months ago

Soooo... fill with premium?

[–] Laser@feddit.org 0 points 2 months ago

Thanks, I immediately recognized it as a formula but couldn't remember what it was for (in my defense, the last time it was relevant to me was about 15 years ago when I studied electrical engineering).

[–] thejoker954@lemmy.world 0 points 2 months ago (1 children)

So this person's nickname is pervert, right? My brain just keeps turning it back to pervert lol

[–] otikireht@lemmynsfw.com 0 points 2 months ago

You saying this reminded me of my mom's old custom plate she had when she was a nurse. She had XOX PRN, which would mean "hugs and kisses, take as needed" on a prescription. A gas station attendant made a comment about her loving porn once and she ended up getting rid of it.

[–] xthexder@l.sw0.com 0 points 2 months ago

Are there even any states that allow an = ? I bet they drew that on with sharpie

[–] thatradomguy@lemmy.world 0 points 2 months ago (1 children)

In computer geek world, pv can stand for physical volume which is used in maybe something like LVM for Linux platforms. TMYK

[–] xthexder@l.sw0.com 0 points 2 months ago

I thought you were going to say Photovoltaic cells (solar panels)

[–] stevedice@sh.itjust.works 0 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Pancho Villa, don't chicken out
