/c/TenForward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. Use spoiler tags in comments, and NSFW checkbox for posts.
This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

For the first few episodes of SNW i actually thought Christina was Cara Gee. I’m not great with faces and they really do give off the same character energy.

[–] rovingnothing29@lemmy.world 21 points 1 week ago (3 children)

A year ago this sub made me realize that Julian Bashir and Gaius Baltar weren't played by the same person. Today they did it again, but with Christina.

Julian Bashir and Gaius Baltar weren't played by the same person.

No they absolutely were. Here is the proof:

Why does Gaius Baltar looks so different now?

"We don't talk about that."

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

No, gaius was played by marcus cole

[–] teft@piefed.social 2 points 6 days ago

I never noticed it before but you're absolutely right.

And then you realize Siddig's full name is Siddig el-Tahir el-Fadil el-Siddig Abdurrahman Mohammed Ahmed Abdel Karim el-Mahdi and James Callis' full name is James Nicholas Callis.

[–] milkisklim@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

IIRC the long name is because of the Sudanese tradition to name a child after everyone who was in the room when they were born.

The point being that they likely have differences in their heritage. Alexander is also essentially Sudan Aristocracy

You can’t for one second tell me somebody didn’t do that on purpose. It was uncanny.

[–] Digestive_Biscuit@feddit.uk 7 points 1 week ago

It was the same for me. I was really impressed with her very stereotypical British accent.

Eye liner on f*cking point!

[–] Thebeardedsinglemalt@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

[–] jewbacca117@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Holy shit I had no idea that was Drummer.

Your'e putting that so close to the raw chicken, errrrrrrrrrr?

[–] Thebeardedsinglemalt@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

You gonna squirt some marinade on there, errrrrr

[–] borf@lemmynsfw.com 6 points 1 week ago

Belter took me too long

[–] deltapi@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Sorry, I need this spelled out for me. Is this prime vs mirror universe in some unreleased stuff?

[–] negativenull@lemmy.world 20 points 1 week ago (1 children)
[–] deltapi@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago (5 children)

Ok. Striking resemblance in the pictures you've chosen.
Is The Expanse worth skipping a rewatch of Voyager to slot in that timeslot instead?

[–] negativenull@lemmy.world 30 points 1 week ago

I'll never tell you to NOT watch a Trek series, but The Expanse is excellent, and definitely worth a watch.

[–] cymbal_king@lemmy.world 20 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

The Expanse does a good job delving into somewhat realistic internal solar system travel/physics in the not too distant future and politics of Earth vs Mars vs asteroid "Belters" factions

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago (4 children)

I went into it as a fan of the books, so your experience may be different, but it was DOPE.

[–] dejected_warp_core@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

"DOPE" is probably the most succinct way to describe it. It's a helluva good watch.

[–] Tattorack@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

I went into it never having read the books. Best damned sci-fi series I've seen in a very long time.

[–] proudblond@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

I’m currently reading (listening to) the books after watching the show and the books are also DOPE. I know some things were changed but man the show had phenomenal casting.

[–] 13igTyme@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

After watching the series I wanted to get the books, but I can't find a copy that doesn't have Amazon slapped all over it.

[–] acockworkorange@mander.xyz 9 points 1 week ago

There's a good chance you won't stand Voyager after watching a show as good as The Expanse.

[–] Tattorack@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

The Expanse is peak sci-fi. Don't sleep on it.

[–] loopedcandle@lemmynsfw.com 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The woman on the right is a character from The Expanse. A well loved character with some similarities to our SNW Security Chief.

[–] deltapi@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Wow. Ok, ty

[–] Tattorack@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Except Camina Drummer is way more cool and better written.

[–] rivr@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago
