So where are all those second amendment loving NRA patriots that believe that they need military grade firearms to protect their freedom from the tyranny of the government?

Because if you're waiting for the opportune moment, this is it.

[–] deadbeef79000@lemmy.nz 103 points 3 days ago

Submitting job applications to ICE.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 56 points 3 days ago (2 children)

All these years we've been told that the reason it's necessary to let innocent children die in mass shootings is just in case the need to overthrow a tyrannical government arises. Guess they died for nothing

[–] tankfox@midwest.social 10 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (3 children)

You know what fully ended school shootings? The pandemic lockdown. We know what causes school shootings; schools are an underfunded nightmare pressure cooker half a step away from the prison system. We know how to fix it, change the system. Since we rushed back to the system that causes the shootings as quickly as we could, I guess you could absolutely say they died for nothing and will continue to die for nothing, probably until there are no more humans left to die for nothing.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Turns out the solution was to ban schools. I'm surprised republicans aren't using this to try to ban school altogether.

I've often wondered how many people planned mass shootings that they didn't go through with because of the pandemic.

The second amendment loving NRA patriots are furiously masturbating to the fascist takeover of the federal government. Do not for one second believe that they believe in the second amendment to overthrow a Republican president. They absolutely would if a Democrat was president.

The biggest issue gun-owning liberals have is that they lack organization whereas the conservatives have it in spades. We desperately need progressives to begin banding together and laying out a plan on what happens when Trump's troops march toward Maryland, a liberal state.

We are quickly reaching the point where we need people who are not only willing to fight for our country, but are willing to die for it as well. I suspect many of us here are willing to do the former, but not many of us are willing to do the latter.

[–] SupraMario@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago (2 children)

You keep disarming yourself. The right has all the firearms. Who is driving the fascist? Is it the left? No... it's the right wing....stop trying to disarm yourself, you make no fucking sense.

There are lots and lots of lefties with guns who know how to use them. Many of them live in the Pacific Northwest, though certainly not all of them.

EPSTEIN FILES.!..

[–] Dragomus@lemmy.world 64 points 2 days ago

He's not lying ... crime IS on the rise in DC...

His crime, his cronies crimes, his family's crimes, all rising sharply...

From crypto scams with rugpulling, to grifting people into buying Trump labeled goods, to insider trading and willfull stockmarket manipulation, from breaking the rule of law to punishing political opponents, to taking bribes and giving bribes so not to be accused, from lying about proven data to forcibly adjusting them to his will. And the crime list is growing almost daily...

Each accusation is an admission of guilt.

The timing of this is interesting, right before he goes to a meeting in Alaska with Putin. Trump's going to make some type of announcement after his meeting, something he knows will cause protests, and he's locking down the capital beforehand to stop any protests from happening there.

Is it going to be an announcement about the Ukraine invasion by Russia? Probably. But, based on Trump's history, he may have made a deal to sell Alaska to Russia as the ultimate real estate deal. Wouldn't put it past him.

[–] Jason2357@lemmy.ca 10 points 2 days ago

He has a wet dream of using the military against protesters, after he was stopped last time. Someone told him he needed the NG installed ahead of time to make it work.

[–] drmoose@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

I sincerely hope you are wrong but it definitely feels that way.

the thing i keep seeing as a wrinkle is, he’s using the national guard, who are by-and-by-large the weekend contract kind who maintain jobs and have families in far-flings of the state.

by deploying them and keeping them deployed, the longer they stay like that, the more guardsmen will lose the jobs they had waiting for them. i know there are protections and such, but, we’re in a capitalist-fascist hellscape now, money is gonna do the talking from now on, and a deployed soldier don’t make money. i also do not see this occupation ending any time soon, nor do i see any protestors being dumb enough to try and test the might of the world’s only global military hedgemon… so, i think they’re just gonna be sitting around playing fucking candy crush.

like, is there a ceiling with guardsmen on how much bullshit they’ll tolerate before they start deserting? i am genuinely asking, if anyone is in the service and knows better.

[–] SupraMario@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Apparently the ones deployed to LA did absolutely fuck all. Same with his bullshit birthday parade, I think he assumes the military is %100 behind him, what it's looking like is they're tolerating his bullshit and doing so half assed and bare minimum.

[–] phx@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 days ago

Honestly I'd love to see them flip the narrative and stand against the criminal thugs... in ICE and many metro police forces.

If guardsmen are have even an ounce of the pettiness that Vietnam vets have I can garunfuckingtee you that they will drag their feet till they forge a new canal. So while they may technically tolerate a tonne of bullshit they will probably be more of a pain in the ass than anything else, soldiery have been the backbone of malicious compliance for millenia. So while they may not desert they will certainly make whoever is above them wish they would, or at least the person actually trying to be an authoritarian asswipe so it's entirely possible it's just hegseth having to deal with under caffeinated guardsmen who are harassing him about hyper specific bullshit every five seconds because they will make sure every form is filed and followed to the letter.

“The Homeless have to move out, IMMEDIATELY. We will give you places to stay, but FAR from the Capital,” Trump wrote.

So nice of him to find a place for them to stay. I can’t wait to hear where that place is.

[–] oppy1984@lemdro.id 12 points 2 days ago

Mandatory showers upon arrival, I'm sure.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 19 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Why do they not arrest the biggest criminal in the Whitehouse? It would significantly lower the crime rate in DC

Are we going to do what South Korea did and hit the streets? Or are we going to do what we always do and complain about the Epstein files?

[–] lectricleopard@lemmy.world 14 points 3 days ago

You can do both. One directly supports the other.

I've developed a game plan for when this hits my city

  • I will not comply with any check points
  • I will force them to arrest me
  • I will demand a jury trial
  • I will be co-council with my attorney, he runs the case
  • I will make my own closing remarks

Which will be

"I refused to comply with a military-armed checkpoint. That is true.

But my question to you is this — why was that checkpoint there in the first place? Are we at war? No. Has there been a terrorist attack that warrants such a measure? No.

So the question before you isn’t simply why I refused to comply… it’s why the military was conducting random checkpoints in the streets of our community at all.

I thought this was the United States of America — not Iraq, not Afghanistan. Our streets are not battlefields, and our neighbors are not enemy combatants.

You, the jury, have a choice. You can accept this new reality — one where the military can set up checkpoints in our neighborhoods — and find me guilty.

Or you can take a stand and say this is not the America we are meant to be, and find me not guilty.

Those are the lines I wish to be judged by, because that was my intention from the very start."

[–] piecat@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago (3 children)

demand a jury trial

Yeah Jury trials aren't common in dictatorships
