Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is considering ordering the full reoccupation of the Gaza Strip, according to Israeli media, a move that would draw fierce opposition internationally and within Israel.

It would mark a stunning escalation of the nearly 22-month war in the territory that has already been largely destroyed and where experts say famine is unfolding. It would put the lives of countless Palestinians and about 20 living hostages at risk, and deepen Israel’s already stark international isolation.

I don't think one side constantly killing civilians can be called a war.

[–] fartographer@lemmy.world 12 points 3 days ago

Have you ever heard of the war on drugs? And they weren't even killing the thing they declared war on!

The most powerful countries in the world are all either total simps for the fascist apartheid regime or publicly pretending that it doesn't exist while supplying it with weapons and ammunition.

What does China think about Gaza by the way? Honest question.

In two words: it's complicated.

In many more words, courtesy of Wikipedia:

China has been Israel's third largest trading partner globally and its largest trading partner in East Asia. Bilateral trade volume increased from $50 million in 1992 to over $10 billion in 2013 Israel has traded significantly with China in technology and arms. Some commentators note similarities between the culture and values of the two nations. Following the October 7 attacks, commentators generally note a worsening in relations between the two countries. In the United Nations, China has long voted in support of the State of Palestine and against Israel.

Does China care about anyone else other than themselves?

[–] HK65@sopuli.xyz 0 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Devil's advocate here: should they?

Shouldn't the sole goal of the Chinese government be to ensure the prosperity of China and the Chinese people?

I don’t disagree, everyone will take care of their own, but if China wants to be a true world power, it can’t just focus inward and ignore everyone else.

[–] HK65@sopuli.xyz 1 points 3 days ago

I guess it's not focusing inward, it is just making moves solely guided by the interests of China and not by any ideology or morality.

What is Netanyahu's problem with the Palestinian Authority? The article says he doesn't think they are committed to peace. I'm guessing the answer is just hatred but I'll give peace a chance... unlike Netanyahu.

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

He has to justify building the settlements so he still accuse israeli collaborators of being an enemy

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 7 points 3 days ago

Not hatred, the Palestinian Authority is essentially an Israeli puppet "state". The Palestinian Authority can't be trusted indeed, but for exactly the opposite of the reason you'd expect. They haven't done anything significant to further the Palestinian cause in decades.

If no one is in charge then he's in charge.

I feel so helpless and horrified. And amidst all of this life still goes on. It sometimes feels surreal to me.
