Ask Lemmy
A Fediverse community for open-ended, thought provoking questions
Rules: (interactive)
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, and toxicity are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them
2) All posts must end with a '?'
This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?
3) No spam
Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason
Just remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either !asklemmyafterdark@lemmy.world or !asklemmynsfw@lemmynsfw.com.
NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email info@lemmy.world. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.
6) No US Politics.
Please don't post about current US Politics. If you need to do this, try !politicaldiscussion@lemmy.world or !askusa@discuss.online
Reminder: The terms of service apply here too.

Have you followed a cello community on Lenny? Maybe it'll keep the spark alive for you enough to get back to the strings. I wanted to play cello as a kid because of that little half plastic ball that goes on the end of the metal stick so you don't scratch the ground. Saw one that looked like a galaxy and was hooked, but they only had violins left at my school. so, you are essentially living my dream.
- Used to play viola back in school. Lost it around fall 2019, early winter 2020 during a forced move.
- I currently have an acoustic guitar I got recently. Really need to actually play it now that I have time instead of letting it sit in the case. Learn it instead of procrastinating.
- I should follow music communities to find more music, but I don't because IDK.
- I don't post because I feel like whenever I do post on a site like this that I need to respond to everyone who replies, which adds mental gymnastics I don't wanna play with .
I make music and have released them on streaming platforms. I’m subscribed to most of the music, music production, and music genre communities in the fediverse.
I used to play saxophone, clarinet and flute for years, but then I moved to Australia and I didn't bring any of them with me. They're expensive here, too, so I can't bring myself to buy another..
Though now I have an Irish low whistle, I haven't had a chance to really get in to it because of changing jobs, moving houses, etc etc. The lack of buttons is challenging.
I admit, though, I have a longing to just get back in to a community band again just to be surrounded by music again.
I'm already subbed to a few comms but I'd take recommendations on what I should be following
What kinda stuff you into? Maybe search for your specific instrument and sub even if it's empty. The more people that do this the more we can find each other.
I'm a musician with dreams of opening a donations based label and covering a different genre every album. Currently releasing a mixtape where each song is a different genre.
Most recent release was on July 4th to protest all the horseshit going on in America: https://youtu.be/RsS5mFz-WgA
