I never considered it before, but Uhura is the only bridge crew who never seems to have an off-shift. She's always there, when Kirk comes back from working out, when Sulu gets relieved for a shift change.

It seems Nichelle Nichols was not available to shoot for the last episode of TOS s3e24 "Turnabout Intruder"
IIRC She's the one who buys the first tribble at the station bar.
Maybe there was no one on the bridge then. Maybe Uhura is always the last off the bridge, except for one shift every 3 years.
But, that's not true, because she's on the occasional away team in TOS. I just don't recall many scenes where she's not at her post. Now I'll have to go back and find an episode where she's with the away team, and see if they show anyone else at her console. I know she's with the away team in "City on the Edge of Forever." I don't recall that they ever show the bridge after they beam down, though.
I'll take either one...

If you watch the Steven Spielberg, The Terminal, it has Zoey Saldana. Their character plays a Trekkie. “The Doomsday Machine” is explicitly referenced. Ironically Saldana would go on to play Uhura in the Kelvin Timeline.
“The Doomsday Machine” didn’t have Uhura in it.
I’ll just pretend that Angela Martine switched divisions after she got married.
