Next thing you can only store files on government approved servers. Storing files locally will be illegal. To protect the children!

[–] miguel@fedia.io 132 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I see you've heard of onedrive :D

[–] CeeBee_Eh@lemmy.world 16 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It even uploads all your files and deletes the local copies for you!

[–] miguel@fedia.io 6 points 2 weeks ago

So convienent

[–] pentastarm@piefed.ca 111 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

This is off topic but I have never seen a negative downvote. Is... Is that like an upvote but with more steps???

I think you have to right click the page while hitting alt-F4 to expose a warp zone.

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 67 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Please don't do this.

Every use of warp destabilizes the zone and eventually warp will be impossible altogether in the unstable zone, possibly the whole quadrant.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 18 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

And then they just dropped that entire plotline

[–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

they mentioned it once or twice...

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

They picked it up again in the third season of Three Body Problem

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

You would destroy this woman’s home world just to get to World 3 faster?

~~It's something to do with how Piefed interacts with Voyager. Never seen it on my Lemmy account or on the browser version of Piefed.~~ boy do I love being immediately proven wrong, this post is currently at -1 both in Voyager and on browser https://piefed.ca/post/114465

Does it still say -1 for you? For me it's a positive 1

[–] pentastarm@piefed.ca 12 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Ah, it does indeed now have a positive 1 in the downvote. You'd think the implementation of ActivityPub would have that be consistent.

[–] pentastarm@piefed.ca 7 points 2 weeks ago

Oh, but Piefed support on Voyager is still in beta. Kinda forgot.

A capture of an ASCII art of an edited drawing from a photo taken more than a decade ago... If it's intentionally part of the message... Damn I get philosophical about it...

Yeah, he's also been working on misinformation campaigns to try to hide that fact. Be really careful who you accept presents from this Christmas.

This indecent will be reported.

As someone who hasn't apple'd in over a decade, I thought this was real

[–] i_am_hiding@aussie.zone 7 points 2 weeks ago

As someone who has only linux'd in over a decade, I didn't even realise this wasn't Linux until I read your comment.

[–] some_kind_of_guy@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Same here. Once my iMac G3 and 2nd gen iPod Touch shit the bed, I was out. My parents are mac people and frequently ask me for help with random, outlandish issues on their Macs (since I'm a "computer person") and I'm usually at a loss.

IIRC, it opens a gui modal asking if you want to give the terminal permission to read the folder. Not quite the same, but still weird and jarring.

Reminds me of the age verification in Larry 1. You had to answer some pretty hard trivia questions.

[–] Regna@lemmy.world 18 points 2 weeks ago

And you didn’t have a search engine at your disposal then. I had to get hold of the purity test from Usenet to understand some of the stuff in LSL.

[–] Hasherm0n@lemmy.world 13 points 2 weeks ago

My friends Dad had this game back when I was a youngster. For the longest time we thought the trivia was the game.

[–] bytesonbike@discuss.online 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I downloaded a DOS game a few years back that had security questions like:

  • Who is the shortstop for this 1978 World Series Team?
  • What was this actor's favorite lunch while on the set of this 1979 film?
  • What is the name of this politician who made an appearance on this 1984 sitcom?
[–] bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de 6 points 2 weeks ago

Sounds like what I remember from Larry.

[–] RedStrider@lemmy.world 34 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Someone should make a script that prevents your computer from viewing files if you've had it for less than 18 years

[–] camelbeard@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago

My Google account is older than 18 years, yet they still want me to verify my age for some youtube videos.

[–] rbn@sopuli.xyz 32 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I completely support that. Bash porn can get pretty interactive.
