Hmm... I'm not actually seeing anything here that indicates an immediate plan to recognize Palestine as a state. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has announced that his country plans to recognise the State of Palestine at the United Nations.
In a Friday post on X, Carney stated: “Canada supports a two-state solution which guarantees peace and security for Israelis and Palestinians.” He added that Ottawa “will work intensively in all fora to further that end, including through the participation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs at the UN High-Level Conference on a Two-State Solution in New York next week.
The Prime Minister also said that Canada condemns the Israeli government’s failure to prevent the rapid deterioration of the humanitarian adisaster in the Gaza Strip.
Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron declared his intention to recognise the State of Palestine in September 2025.
In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu strongly condemned the move, saying that the establishment of a Palestinian state would pose a threat to Israel’s security.
Meanwhile, the Hamas movement welcomed Macron’s intention to recognise Palestine during the UN General Assembly in September.
Hamas described the move as a positive step in the right direction towards justice for the oppressed Palestinian people and support for their legitimate right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on all of its occupied territory, with Jerusalem as its capital.
You’re absolutely correct. Canada is not pursuing Palestinian statehood recognition. This statement was the second strongly worded statement against Israel that doesn’t contain any specific actions or steps.
But oh boy, wait until warning #3 comes out! I hear it will be even more strongly worded and still have absolutely zero concrete plans or consequences!
Al Jazeera is reporting that Macron asked the UK and Canada to join France in recognising Palestinian statehood but neither were willing.
Obviously I very much hope that we do, but I agree, the above tweet does not indicate that we're about to do so.

If they really believed in a two state solution, they would reconize it decades before the genocide. If they really believe in it . They would have stop any military relation with israel way before thr genocide. They would impose as strong sanctions as russia and iran in state level and not just few settlers that are financed by israel government

Israel failed to prevent the humanitarian disasters that Israel started.
Israel should never have been allowed to exist. Their presence only ever causes pain.
Europe decided Jews weren't safe in Europe so gave up some of their colonial land in order to create a settler ethnostate in the most religiously significant region in the world.

They also have a video / audio of US military contractors firing on Palestinian people after they have retrieved food to "disperse" the crowd. And one american shouted "you got one". The video is taken behind a hill so you don't see the commotion. The video was leaked by a merc that had a sense of conscience.
And Israel, to disperse hungry Palestinians entering the aid area before it was actually open, were fired on by an Israeli Tank. Firing a tank shell into a crowd is not crowd dispersion, its just murder.
Technically they dispersed people in all directions.
Dispersing pieces of people doesn't count.

Well, at least next week isn't fucking September. A couple of weeks ago a 7-month-old baby girl named Salam died of starvation. I have never seen a human being so thin and it was a goddamn baby.
To be clear, I don't expect real action on this from Carney. I think it's disgusting how world leaders have left Palestine to starve and rot. It will get worse.
Until we literally take to the streets this is what we will have. Our government doesn't represent us. Why do we prop it up?

There's a lot of comments in this thread, with a LOT of up votes, claiming this is a nothing burger and isn't actually a change in Canadian foreign policy. I understand being annoyed at slow progress that should've happened long ago but claiming this is actually bad for Palestine is disingenuous.
Canada has never recognised a Palestinian government other than the Palestinian Authority (PA) which is an Israeli organisation set up to represent Palestine on behalf of Israel. Here they are clearly starting they have intention to do so which most likely will be the State of Palestine which is a Palestinian organisation that currently receives the most recognition in the United nations general Assembly.

If I were a paranoid person I'd say that the comments declaring Canada's plan to recognise Palestine are futile and meaningless are pro Israeli propaganda planted to look like a pro Palestinian stance. And when it comes to discussions about Israel online, I am very paranoid.

I am sorry, but nowhere does he say that.
The "we want a two state solution, but wont recognize a palestinian state until Israel agrees to it" has been the modus operandi of many Genocide supporting countries. They know Israel wont ever agree to it while they reject putting actual pressure on the Zionist project.

This dosent change jack shit. UN memberships have to be approved by all the perminent members of the security council and the US is a perminent member of said council. And in the UN the US always does what Israel tells them to.
If I remember correctly last year there was a vote on palistine becoming a member and the only countires that voted no was the US and Israel but palistine is still not a member because Israel told the US to block it.

The last paragraph, he starts the paragraph saying the official government stance is the two state solution and sovereignty of Palestine
That's been the official position forever. Canada wants a Palestinian state, but it's not recognizing one yet. Basically they put out a nothing statement and people are thinking it's something new.

Israelis and Palestinian citizens need to agree together that they have to oust their Hamas and Netanyahu regime oppressors. Without this, nothing will change.
