the u.s. could join, as recognizing the crown as head-of-state is not a requisite for membership and has not been for decades.

I don't think USians should fight this.

As pear shaped as the UK may be at the moment, it must be better off than all the nonsense in the US. Though there really is nothing in it for the Commonwealth, in any event.

Seems pretty harmless. Especially if it is used to forget about threats made. What am I missing?

If the US became a british commonwealth before 2016, trump would probably never have became the head of government, since there would be more than 2 parties and much less extremism.
