Climate crisis has shown that society doesn't listen to warnings. Marginalized people, poor people, disabled people have to cooperate to gain influence.

[–] LadyButterfly@piefed.blahaj.zone 18 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yes but you're forgetting an important thing. People in other countries aren't white, making them less important.

What's the consequence? Poor white people shouldn't cooperate? Poor white people don't cooperate with brown people? All brown people cooperating would already make a difference.

Edit:

Do you mean that people cooperating in brown countries doesn't change anything in white countries?

Disabled trans woman here, I’m at the front of the line for the meat grinder!

[–] LadyButterfly@piefed.blahaj.zone 19 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Disabled queer woman, I'm 2nd in the queue! I have multiple disabilities but being trans obviously outweighs even that

Dont worry; we can all have a little party in the camps, maybe taunt the alligators they're gonna feed our corpses to!

we're at the breaking point or, and I believe this, we're past it - it's broken, but no one has admitted it yet.

I do volunteer work for the homeless. Within the past year or two the sheer amount of homeless people has skyrocketed. the stereotypes are bullshit. These aren't junkies, these aren't mentally ill people, these are people who are broke. A MASSIVE increase in women and the elderly. a Huge increase in immigrants. and it's increasing weekly to monthly. not like gradually increasing but "the dam has broken and shits flooding" increasing. We can't keep up. We don't have enough food to hand out now, not enough clothes, not enough anything. we're just constantly fighting a massive wave of people looking, begging, pleading for help and we're running out of help to provide.

I suspect, at least where I live in Canada, we have 6 months to MAYBE a year left but everything is over run and shit just straight up collapses.

Native American here we are always at the front and end of the line.

[–] LadyButterfly@piefed.blahaj.zone 19 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah but like, occasionally we make vague statements about being sorry about the genocide. Which makes it fine

In a non weird way I just looked through your comment history and I like you. Can I DM you about a community I moderate?

Well, it seems like: total destruction the only solution

The rats will always be the first to know when the ship is sinking.

[–] HasturInYellow@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I don't like referring to them as rats, but that is certainly how they are treated.

[–] Pratai@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

I’m talking about literal rats. Rodents. Way back when, when tall ships were damaged to the point of sinking, the rats that lived in holds would scatter to the upper decks. Comparably, the lower classes and “poors” are usually the first to exhibit the symptoms of a failed economy.

[–] HasturInYellow@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (3 children)

Yes I understand the analogy, and it's a good one, it just feels bad to intentionally think of them (us) as rats.

[–] Pratai@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Again, it’s not to think of people as rats- it’s to compare the similarity of the situation between.

[–] UnknownSoul@programming.dev 1 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Yeah, for real. We're unimportant poor and disabled people. Not rats...

Except the ones that are rats. And they're probably adorable.

[–] Pratai@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

No one said we were.

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 1 points 2 days ago

I'm surprisingly OK with being refered to as a rat.
