Does anyone have recommendations for alternatives to Splitwise?

Recently they removed some features from their free version and now I am looking for an European alternative.

Thanks!

EDIT: Thank you so much for the amazing recommendations! Gonna give Spliit, Splid, and Tricount a go :)

https://spliit.app/ is a free and open source alternative (there is an official instance but it is also selfhostable).

Oh yeah I used this last year for a trip after I raised Splitwise only has 5 free transactions you can record per day.

Wtf, for real? Wow, bin that s**t... Tricount is fantastic

[โ€“] rippersnapper@lemm.ee 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, but all my friends use Splitwise so sich with it. Network effect is a real b*tch. (P.S: Dunno about swearing rules here).

[โ€“] NotJohnSmith@feddit.uk 2 points 5 days ago

A little like WhatsApp, I can't get anyone to move so I'm stuck.

Fair point re swearing, low effort on my part

Made in Canada tech!

just downloaded for ios and it looks great so far! curious why it has 0 reviews compared to tricount and splid which have around ~650 each.

I used tricount last year and found it good. It's a large bank behind it (bunq), but they sit in the Netherlands.

[โ€“] NotJohnSmith@feddit.uk 4 points 5 days ago

Yup, been using tricount for years, can't rate it enough (especially now it does multiple currencies within a single kitty.

Mind you, thought it was French so have been pronouncing it "tree-cont" and that's no coming back from that! :)

Itโ€™s made in Germany

Used that recently and worked very well - can recommend!

If you are selfhosting then there is a plugin for Nextcloud for this. It's called cospend.

And there is the stand alone project ihatemoney.org. They are France based and offer both a hosted server and for you to operate it yourself

Is there an Android/iOS app for it?

[โ€“] Vittelius@feddit.org 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Moneybuster for Android PayForMe for iOS

Both apps work for both platforms

Isn't it Belgian?

[โ€“] cyberwolfie@lemmy.ml 6 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Me and my partner moved from Splitwise to Cospend on my Nextcloud instance. I like it more.

I'm going to have to convince some family members to do this soon. We've used splitwise, but I've wanted to drop it for years simply because it's proprietary and I don't trust it. Now I have more reasons. Did you use an app or a mobile site to input your expenses?

[โ€“] cyberwolfie@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 days ago

I've always used the web browser on desktop for it, also on Splitwise, so I don't have experience with mobile here. But there's an Android app developed by the same developer IIRC

[โ€“] the_swagmaster@lemmy.zip 5 points 5 days ago (2 children)

In the Netherlands there is Splitser which even has iDeal integration but never seen anyone else use it

[โ€“] lazycog@feddit.uk 5 points 5 days ago

Used to be called "wiebetaaltwat". Found out about this app years ago from couple of Dutch guys and it was actually quite nice to use.

Haven't used it in awhile so don't know if anything has changed, but it was simple and efficient.

[โ€“] DreasNil@feddit.nu 1 points 5 days ago

I moved from Splitwise to Solitzer a few weeks ago. Itโ€™s simple and efficient, I like it a lot! Iโ€™m from Sweden, so I donโ€™t use the bank integrations.

  • ihatemoney.org -> French FOSS Alternative
  • Cospend -> Nextcloud App

Both work with moneybuster on Android

[โ€“] Squizzy@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

I have never heard of this, but is Revolut not European? Splitting was their big selling point initially

[โ€“] EuropeanMade@feddit.uk 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

If your European bank supports Ideal you can use Tikkie and Groepie (Tikkie ask individuals for money back, Groepie is dividing group expenses) https://www.tikkie.me/groepie

[โ€“] EntropyPure@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

Does Tikkie work with non Dutch bank accounts now or is it still NL banks only?

[โ€“] adbenitez@lemmy.ml 1 points 5 days ago

If you use ArcaneChat (https://arcanechat.me/) or DeltaChat (https://delta.chat/) there is an in-chat mini-apps for split bills, you can use it with groups of friends totally private end-to-end encrypted between chat members without the need of any online service for split bills
