"How do you kill that which has no life?"

[–] toynbee@lemmy.world 32 points 1 week ago

What is dead may never die.

I bet they would just ask their ISP and track all their internet traffic from a comfortable bureau somewhere.

This feels like the XKCD comic:

collapsed inline media

You can still create a system in which not even you know the password if the right conditions are met.

Like, you didn't authenticate in 3 days, the master encryption key is now overwritten and noone can decrypt it.

Though this would be a very unstable system, a slight mistake and you have to start over, having lost all data.

Clearly, they’re deep into the crypto market. Untraceable.

That guy definitely is on discord.

[–] GNUmer@sopuli.xyz 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

If this guy uses standard ISP-provided DNS resolvers, authorities could just pull the DNS logs and find the DNS queries matching Discord domains. I'm sure no mom of an adult child really uses Discord.

[–] doingthestuff@lemy.lol 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

My adult kids use discord. My wife and I (early 50s) use discord. Why wouldn't parents use discord?

their eula is sketchy as fuck, for one

[–] B0rax@feddit.org 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

And parents usually read EULAs in contrast to everyone else, right?

Everybody should, yet nobody does.

honestly, though, don't forget how dangerous/irritating you can be to an authoritarian, paranoid surveillance state by merely being a waste of their time.

If they're nazis, then clearly the morally correct thing to do if you can't punch them is to annoy them in some manner.

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Slowing down their “progress” is better than annoying them. Especially if you can do it without raising suspicion or too much annoyance, add friction wherever possible.

[–] the_wiz@feddit.org 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Nah, they would simply disappear you if you were a nuisance

[–] archonet@lemy.lol 10 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

again, this is in case punching Nazis is simply not an option for you, and I never said it was without peril to yourself. No resistance is.

It's going to be like a credit score soon.

I'll just set up my government backed tiktok and like some videos about how Palestine Genocide is Antisemitic bullshit, how Israeli is great, how great paid medical care is and then I can travel to America. Got to give them my non voluntary, voluntary tip for entry though, only 20% of flight cost (but they will give me a dirty look for it being so low).

[–] yetAnotherUser@discuss.tchncs.de 24 points 1 week ago (2 children)

It's literally the exact opposite. This guy isn't a ghost. He's a fucking beacon.

Want to be as stealthy as possible? Then be as "normal" as possible. Use only corporate social media and use it frequently. Pay for Adobe Reader. Engage in celebrity gossip and drama.

And then, once you have manufactured this persona, you can actually remain hidden from surveillance and do whatever you want to remain hidden.

[–] DrunkAnRoot@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 week ago

this is half true it would be like living 2 lives youd have this persona and every device you use for this could never be at your home itd need a faraday cage you cant be friends with anyone from work youd need to give a fake address to your work fake info to everyone you meet and your making up a new life to blend in

[–] PolarKraken@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago

Something something about staring into the abyss, tho.

[–] arin@lemmy.world 19 points 1 week ago

They're trying to recruit him for ICE because of all his racist comments online.

[–] BigBananaDealer@lemm.ee 8 points 1 week ago

i read this like "whats he building?" by tom waits

[–] SpaceShort@feddit.uk 5 points 1 week ago

Am I the only one who interprets this as this guy not existing and someone was trading on Robinhood with a fake name?

[–] fox2263@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

And they’ve spent hundreds of thousands looking into the person doing nothing wrong
