They are afraid to get deported for replying.

I'm OOTL or something who's the bottom guy?

[–] SmackemWittadic@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (2 children)

That's Mahmoud Khalil, a normal dude in the US with a green card, who the ICE has a hold of and wants to deport because he did some very legal peaceful protests for Palestine

[–] lord_ryvan@ttrpg.network 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Aii caramba, that's pretty... Well standard for the US by now, but still.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 3 days ago

It's definitely not standard... But it's not surprising that it's happening. Unfortunately.

And it's extremely concerning.

Important to note here that the he has not been charged with a crime.

If a legal resident commits a crime there is a process to detain, try, sentence, and (potentially) deport them. It happens all the time. But that is not what is happening here. They arrested and detained an American without due process.

[–] SmackemWittadic@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

That's the biggest issue, even the courts say that they have no right to detain him

[–] mindbleach@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Splitting hairs, but a green card only means permanent residency.

[–] Toribor@corndog.social 1 points 3 days ago

I did specify that he is a legal resident and not a citizen.

has he been found at all? last I know his pregnant wife and lawyer (different person) couldn't even reach him

[–] lord_ryvan@ttrpg.network 1 points 4 days ago

Thanks a lot!

Checks out, Israel has been explicitly and intentionally modelling Nazi Germany from the very start, and often in collaboration with them.

Hey, are political memes allowed here?

[–] Cowbee@lemmy.ml 0 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Yep, there's a comm for non-political memes as well.

[–] KittenHippie@lemm.ee 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Y’all shoulda voted Kamala and this wouldn’t have happened…

Ah yes because she said she was going to deport people and shut down protests.

Trump literally said he was going to do that while campaigning - and is now doing just that.

At least you would’ve had a voice.

Point being, this guy wouldn’t be locked up.

Edit: if anyone had any other realistic options given the situation I’m all ears lmao

[–] dessalines@lemmy.ml 1 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Kamala was VP under Biden, who like Obama gave billions to Israel to murder Palestinians. Even tho the majority of people oppose the war, they get this anyway.

The US is not a democracy, it's a capitalist dictatorship.

[–] Zerush@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 days ago

It never was a democracy

[–] elatedCatfish@lemm.ee -1 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

So you’re trying to tell me it would’ve been the same and/or worse under Kamala? I want some of whatever you’re on…

I get it’s not ideal, but you’ve got millions of idiots here in the US that couldn’t give a shit about Palestine. I’m not one of the ones you need to convince of this. I just voted for the better of the two options this time around considering the stakes. Voted Bernie Sanders in both 2016 and 2020.

Edit: wonder if you’ll still feel the same way once the special needs orangutan and his best buddy Netanyahu turn Gaza into a strip mall or golf course….

[–] vibraniumdroid@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

you’re trying to tell me it would’ve been the same and/or worse under Kamala

That's exactly what I'm trying to tell you

[–] bountygiver@lemmy.ml -1 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Pretty sure what they meant is same for Palestine.

However it would be without the blatant authoritarian BS going on that hurts people in the US even more.

If your end goal is the fall of US as the result of this, then fair, and I do hope this doesn't lead to the worst outcome possible - a third world war.
