MODERATORS

The people wanna know what date we're doing before 6/14 so we can announce then! Comment, discuss! Need to know what the top contenders are before a ranked choice vote can be set up.

Please share any significance associated with particular dates and/or any theme ideas. Or, share reasons why a particular date might not work. If there's already a comment for a date or theme that you want to uplift, please upvote it.

Please also comment about how frequently you want to mobilize during this period (should we have a July date and an August date, or just one date?)

Thursday, July 17 - In remembrance of John Lewis, a civil rights icon who coined the phrase "good trouble, necessary trouble"

Theme: "Break the Oligarchy" or "Topple the Billionaires"

Name and shame the ~1000 ultra-wealthy individuals who are enabling the Trump regime to dismantle democracy, and the system that puts their greed over working people's needs.

July 17 to honor John Lewis, August 26th is Women’s Equality Day

July 26th ~ National Disability Independence Day, commemorating the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in 1990. This was a monumental moment in Disability Rights allowing for inclusion of Disabled people in public affairs and ending centuries of segregation from public life. The ADA also provided Disabled children the right to attend and remain in public schools without fear of discrimination. The ADA explicitly prohibits the discrimination of Disabled people in all levels of government, employment, healthcare, education, and more.

The importance of making a showing on this day cannot be understated. It is clear that the government supports eugenic concepts and has so far supported the budget bill (aka the murder bill) which intends to quietly genocide Disabled people in America. They wish to cut off our life supports, medications, and treatments; to leave us to die painful deaths and say they are not the ones who murdered us. This is why we must make a giant showing of solidarity this Disability Independence Day. We must take a stand and say that we are not free until we are all free, and that our movement will defend the most vulnerable among us.

2 dates please (but NOT the 4th-too many people out of town at beaches, lakes, etc). July could be America the Free. August maybe Our Declaration of Independence (or similar?). Sweet Pea 8131 50501NNV

July 12 or 19 and August 16 -- avoid major holidays and back to school time. Lots of folks have obligations around both. JULY--FREEDOM or LIBERTY theme--emphasize all the freedoms we have lost

Theme: "End ICE Terror"

For South Dakota, the Sturgis Rally official dates are Fri, Aug 1, 2025 – Sun, Aug 10, 2025, but people usually start showing up and leave a week or so before/after. This means, out of safety concerns, our Western SD/Rapid City location will most likely be unable to hold any demonstrations during this time. (Probably from July 25 through August 17).

Both July and Aug. Also I think we should work with Money Out of Politics and partner for July 27. They are asking 2 mil Americans to march in Washington, DC and all around the country to get money out of politics. moneyoutofpolitics.org I also think waiting from June 14 to July 27 maybe too long for most so potentially July 4 as well in July. And then maybe mid Aug?

Our state does best with weekend events. We had 100k protesters on 4/5, but have had local conflicts with going big on 4/19 and 6/14. We would really like the opportunity to align with a national date on a weekend. I agree with those who say July 4th weekend will be hard to draw a crowd -- and it could be bad optics (are we protesting the birth of our nation?). I'd prefer any other weekend in July or August.

My state is already planning events for both the 4th of July and for a Mutual Aid Day in July.

It’s a holiday where people want to be with their families so I don’t think a Fourth of July action would draw.

We were talking about a statewide mobilization in our capitol on the 4th of July.
