Why don't your people just sell their homes and move where there aren't any tornados Josh.

[–] RapidCatLauncher@lemmy.ca 45 points 3 days ago (2 children)

[–] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 7 points 3 days ago

We as normal humans from earth always speak like that, do we not?

They'll get it eventually. I wonder what he'll have to do to get it though. This is what happens when you give a mob boss the purse strings.

Last month, Arkansas’ Republican Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders — who previously served as Trump’s press secretary — issued a letter to the president pleading with him to reconsider FEMA’s denial of an emergency disaster declaration request as the state recovered from a series of tornadoes in March. In her letter, Sanders wrote that “without the support of a Major Disaster Declaration, Arkansas will face significant challenges in assuming full responsibility and achieving an effective recovery from this event,” and that “supplemental Federal assistance is crucial” to recovery efforts.

The declaration was finally issued on May 13, almost exactly two months after the storms hit the state, and a month after Huckabee wrote to the president.

I’m all for disaster relief, but how does “please give us money to pay for this problem so that we can ‘assume full responsibility’ for this problem” make any sense?

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 20 points 3 days ago

It's Sarah Sanders, she hasn't been socialized with normal people yet.

Well it's the same as pulling yourself up by your bootstraps! Everyone worth any respect at all has gotta be a self-made man, a rugged individualist, a lone wolf! Help is for snowflakes and libtards, these patriots don't take handouts, they'd never be caught dead getting bailed out by Uncle Sam, they assume full responsibility! After the real adults solve the fucking crisis, anyway. And rinse and repeat.

It's cartoon language for cartoon people, from the politicians to the voters and back. Their world view is a 12 year old's embarrassingly shitty fanfic of reality. Just utterly shameful.

(I know you know all that, that passage just stuck out to me too as egregiously disingenuous double speak and it pissed me right off)

Edit: spewed more vitriol, lol

[–] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

What it's saying is "Without this declaration, we'll have full responsibility for recovery, which would be difficult". The implication is that the declaration, and thus the aid, makes them not fully responsible, since they would also be receiving said aid.

Republicans don't ask for handouts, they ask for your confidence, faith, and trust to manage and grow an investment opportunity.

... It is literally just throw in some other Republican coded words that sound more 'small business entrepenuer', and this is sufficient to trick the lead brained, ivermectin enema'd, mouth breathing cult members that make up their core voter base.

I am serious about this, go find a tiktok compilation of Republican small business owners who've been fucked over by the tariffs, who either open their video with, or include the phrase 'I'm not asking for a handout, I'm asking for a handup' or some other such laughably sophomoric wordplay, when complaining they got what they asked for and now they don't want it.

The smarter ones know they are being disingenuous, but a shocking number of them really are so stupid that they think using a different phrase to describe the same thing, well that makes it a different thing.

They are so used to having thought terminating cliches and reframing certain discussion subjects with more rhetorically agreeable wordings... from their churches, their media, their political heroes... I really stuggle to describe it as anything other than a kind of learned mental disability.

trump threw huckabee under the bus after she became useless to him.

If they aren’t providing support to red states they are going to completely refuse blue states. Hope forest fire season isn’t intense on the west coast cuz I think we’re on our own.

[–] xtr0n@sh.itjust.works 17 points 3 days ago

If the feds won’t pay out maybe everyone in the blue states should quit paying federal taxes?

[–] Zexks@lemmy.world 19 points 3 days ago

Boot straps and socialism. Fuck you Josh. Grow up and learn how to govern instead of being a parasitic leech on the rest of us.

[–] pineapplelover@lemm.ee 2 points 2 days ago

While the room is burning with you in it. Is it worth the "I told ya so" if we burn ourselves down? Hopefully people will realize that they fucked up.

[–] RestrictedAccount@lemmy.world 17 points 3 days ago
[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 2 days ago

Why Josh?

FEMA is stupid and expensive, States Rights to pull themselves up by their own bootstraps, I'm sure they have all the money they need to handle their own affairs.

[–] GuyFawkes@midwest.social 16 points 3 days ago

Hahaha no. ANNNNNNNNNDDDD it’s gonna be punishment for speaking out against him last week.

[–] leadore@lemmy.world 15 points 3 days ago

Hawley just hasn't come up with a good enough "what's he gonna do for trump in return?" yet.

[–] stoly@lemmy.world 12 points 3 days ago

Raise that fist again Josh

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago

[–] Fingolfinz@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago

[–] Jikiya@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Such a great pic for the article.

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 day ago

You know what? What if Biden or Obama asked Trump, VERY publicly, to deploy FEMA for them?

[–] Jikiya@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

May the odds be forever in his favor, we say to those who are put before Trump for his amusement.
