My love language is calling in sick. lol

[–] SippyCup@feddit.nl 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I used to call in sick for major video game releases. kinda miss those days. Now I work at a place that rewards attendance with vacation days and if I took a day off I would spend it working on stuff around the house anyway. Oh well, so it goes. Poo tee weet.

I’m not so sure that doing this once in a while would hurt productivity. All the time - yes, once in a while - not so sure.

[–] Zoldyck@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago (1 children)

It's more likely to boost productivity

[–] skvlp@lemm.ee 2 points 3 days ago

My hunch agrees with you

So I just re-read The Hobbit, very cute & nice, I love it still!

I was a real bookworm-nerd when I was younger, but I'm ok with rereading good books, so what should I read now? Any suggestions?

Newer books greatly appreciated too of course 😘

All of the Discworld books of course. Or at least your favorites.

[–] Valmond@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

Of course! I have reread them a fair amount of times already but it has been a while ...

The original Thrawn trilogy by Timothy Zahn. They were the first books to expand the Star Wars universe after the original movies and introduced some names, characters and other stuff that were later used in other productions, like Coruscant was first named here. Also, they are great books, intriguing characters, nice story, etc.

Have you read the sword of truth series by terry goodkind? Easily my favorite fantasy series, however there are 17 books in the core series, 21 total. I was also a bookworm and it killed me waiting for new releases..

The rifters trilogy by Peter watts is great surreal sci-fi, and freely available (he released it free on his own website, as well as ebook download)

Thank you! 17-21 books, that's not a downside! Will check out.

It's more sci fi than fantasy but I greatly enjoyed both The Expanse series and The Three Body Problem books. The expanse is just good start to finish. TBP however requires a little bit of forgiveness, it's a less than stellar translation from Chinese, it carries a lot of cultural baggage that gets lost in translation. But it gets better with each book

[–] Valmond@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago

The 3 body problem was nice from a historical/human point, I really liked that, but the scifi part was so bad IMO 😞.

I'll bring the weed! Edibles so that no one has to inhale smoke if they don't want to. Also, what this day needs is lying back and looking for shapes and pictures in the clouds. Haven't done that since childhood.

[–] lime@feddit.nu 3 points 3 days ago (2 children)

please don't, it's super illegal here

[–] SippyCup@feddit.nl 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Brother relax they're just cookies. Harmless, completely legal, slightly tainted cookies

[–] lime@feddit.nu 1 points 3 days ago

so fun fact, being under the influence of illegal substances is also illegal. and they're currently trying to pass a law allowing police to check if you're high without suspicion.

[–] Character_Locked@lemm.ee 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Oof, in that case I guess I'll have to go with a legal and socially acceptable drug that's actually worse for you. Wine it is! I prefer dry red myself but I'm open to whatever lol

[–] lime@feddit.nu 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

drinking in public spaces is also illegal

[–] Character_Locked@lemm.ee -2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Lmao fine! It's annoying but I get it. If we're having a picnic, everyone must be comfortable and happy. So let's do it this way, anyone that wants to meet up for a smoke session before the picnic is welcome to join me and if you me slipping away from the crowd your few moments, you know what's up. But I'm actually fine with keeping the picnic itself PG for the sake of all ages and cultures.

[–] lime@feddit.nu 2 points 3 days ago (2 children)

i just don't understand why a picnic can't just be a picnic

[–] higgsboson@dubvee.org 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

In this case, spending all day at the park would get boring after a while. Maybe it depends on the park.

[–] lime@feddit.nu 2 points 3 days ago

and the book

[–] Character_Locked@lemm.ee 1 points 3 days ago

That's totally fair. Not everything has to be an excuse to get drunk or stoned or whatever. Just being in good company, eating good snacks and hanging out can be enough.
