"Woke Seatbelts" was unironically a thing back in the 1980s. I remember AM Radio heads and far-right libertarians kicking and screaming about it, people proudly insisting they wouldn't wear a seat belt and yelling at patrol officers who ticketed them, and lots of folks stories about people being "thrown clear of the wreck" or "trapped in their car burning to death" which made seatbelts more dangerous.

You don't redo an election once the elected people take office - especially for something like the questionable reasons they offered. Trump's election had a stronger basis for being challenged than this, but the Democrats accepted that on this basis.
