/c/TenForward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

I just want a material that allows for maximum mobility and feels like I'm wearing nothing at all

Wool is the superior fiber. ducks

[–] caseyweederman@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 month ago

No, ducks give down, not wool.

That's because polyester gets smelly in general. Natural fibres are much better for that.

My vote is for silk. It's a little breathable and also more fire resistant than synthetics. Plus, The Sisko would look great in silk.

Why bother .... in the 24th century ... they could control the ship's climate to be absolutely comfortable at the right temperature and humidity all the time everywhere. Then you could just forego any clothing and allow everyone to just be naked. They only time anyone ever needs clothing is when they leave the ship. Otherwise, while inside the ship, just let everything breathe.

That is putting a lot of faith in a computer system that can't tell the difference between crew members and unauthorized visitors, and regularly gives access to critical functions to anyone who asks.

Honestly no joke, I do hope the future is one where we eschew all this needless religiously-borne body shame. We are the only animal on the planet that feels the need to be ashamed of our genitalia. That's weird. And I think it's weird as hell that for the vast majority of us, we have no idea what like 20% of the bodies of our very closest friends and relatives look like. That's crazy to me - I don't know what 20% of my very best friend actually looks like.

So yeah, I desperately hope humanity in the future has figured out how get past this unnecessary shame.
