Because of ethical restraints it is extremely rare for a senior government official, let alone a sitting president, to endorse a consumer product so explicitly.

Yeah... Those were good times.

Do they not fucking remember the whole Goya thing last time. He literally shot a commercial from the presidents desk.

Like we needed another reason not to buy tesla

How long till a President ends a speech with "smash that like and subscribe for 10% off RAID: Shadow Legends"?

[–] uienia@lemmy.world 21 points 12 hours ago

He is already kind of doing it, just replace Raid Shadow Legends with Russia.

In parallel universes where he wasn't born of a rich family, Trump is a car salesman. This is our universe trying to find balance.

The kind that doesn’t know shit about any car on the lot and just tries to pressure you into buying the most expensive car because it’s the most expensive, but was secretly totaled on a flood.

It's Goya beans all over again

[–] Tempus_Fugit@midwest.social 31 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

And I've been boycotting Goya ever since.

Keep boycotting, and join protests outside Tesla showrooms. ~60% of Musk’s wealth is in Tesla shares. Tank the stock and tank his wealth and thus influence

There are protests all across the US and starting to spring up in other countries. Here’s a list of upcoming ones + a guide to help organize one around you if none exist

This is the easiest boycott of my life. I love it

[–] spiritsong@lemmy.world 40 points 21 hours ago (4 children)

I'm not surprised. Didn't Donald Trump used the Oval Office once to promote some... ketchup or sauce or something, and was paid for? I mean it denigrades the station of the office, but does he really care?

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 25 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

He literally sold the Resolute Desk to Goya for ad space.

This is after he did a Mcdonalds/Dominos ad when he had them cater the NCAA basketball champions' dinner at the White House.

It's what he does.

Seeing musk, trump and a Tesla in a single shot just makes that toxic association so much stronger. I don't think this is going to play out like they hope.

Plus, you know the boycott is working, talk about desperate.

[–] Fingolfinz@lemmy.world 33 points 22 hours ago (3 children)

Searching on Google “how to sell my tesla” or “how to sell my tesla stock” hurts their shares. Scheduling a test drive and not showing up wastes their time and resources :)

President Musk told his employee to do a photoshoot.

This story makes no sense any other way.

Are there laws in the US about such conflicts of interest or was is basically tradition until this point not to do shit like this?

[–] Railcar8095@lemm.ee 34 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Laws are as good as the ability and will to enforce them.

Because of ethical restraints, it is extremely rare for a senior government official, let alone a sitting president, to endorse a consumer product so explicitly. In 2017, when then-Trump counselor Kellyanne Conway told Americans to buy from Ivanka Trump’s clothing line, she received a warning from a government ethics office and promised never to do it again.

this whole gambit was actually a 4d chess move by elon to brainwash righties into buying EVs therefore solving climate change and bringing about global communism. I never should have doubted you, sir

I assume he lacks the ability as well

I think some brains are about to explode...

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 27 points 17 hours ago

when your influence is dying due to your hubris you become desperate and pull something out like this.

Just because we want electronic cars, doesn't means we'll take Tesla's.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 26 points 23 hours ago (3 children)

I don't want electric cars. I want electric trains.

I yelled at my phone when I saw this.

He said "oh wow! The whole thing is a computer!" like cars haven't been like that for YEARS now.

The I go on Facebook for some reason (I am in a rural area) and I am seeing people talking about buying teslas in the local community pages. These people are not people that couldn't afford a used Mitsubishi Mirage....

Such a historical site defaced for such a purpose.

I hope someone's dog shits on the white house lawn and doesn't clean it up

[–] Zomg@lemmy.world 11 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

This the same dipshit who wants to halt federal EV buildout, EV Programs, and federal building charging stations. I doubt any of you needed reminding, but JFC, it pains me that some dummy is gonna buy an EV only AFTER he sat in one for political theater.

😂 what a waste. I doubt this even moves the needle on public perception. Rednecks aren't buying these things only well off urban Republicans. I can't think many leftists give a shit about these things. They may be fast, but they have no class.
