That's one way to get out of owning one. Just claim the brake gave out and it rolled into the water. As many mechanical issues those things have it will be hard for the insurance company to argue otherwise. Insurance check incoming to buy a non nazimobile.

Can an insurance company demand the surveillance video or would that be private since the driver has an expectation of privacy?

Yes. Expectations of privacy wouldn't be relevant in this context, you should expect the insurance company to want all of the available data from the car before they pay out.

Does Tesla sell / give their data to insurance?

[–] lolrightythen@lemmy.world 1 points 14 hours ago

I wouldn't be surprised if insurers would cut a deal with Tesla for that info. Screwing the end consumer is the gift the keeps on giving.

I mean, that's a solid way out of it.

Insurance can request surveillance tape but they have no authority to demand or get it unless provided willingly. It would have to be provided by the property owner. They do also offer to pay for the tape if they feel it will show what they need.

Tesla probably has something I'm the fine print that has a clause that gives insurance owners cars video.

Surprised it didn't burn underwater.

A fire...at a Sea Parks!?!

[–] HikingVet@lemmy.ca 2 points 18 hours ago

It's possible with lithium.

[–] Leeks@lemmy.world 3 points 18 hours ago

Give it a month. The corrosion will set in and it will “spontaneously” combust.

[–] Lemmist@lemm.ee 5 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

Does that car even have a handbrake?

[–] gadfly1999@lemm.ee 4 points 15 hours ago

If it does it’s behind a menu on the touchscreen.

[–] LiterallyLMAO@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago

Yes, but you need to pay 5.99/month subscription to access it.

Fine place to park a swasticar, they should have just left it there.

They can barely take a puddle let alone a flood.

I'm not sure if it's that they're not bright or it's just such a piece of shit it ends up in fucked up situations a lot. Probably both.

We know, they bought a cybertruck.

I bet dollars to doughnuts the drivers breath smells like horse dewormer.
