The headline isn't even untrue.

The value of fiat currency depends on the faith its holders have in the stability of the government that issues it. This acts as an incentive for governments to maintain stability. (Whether that's a democratic or authoritarian stability is another question.)

It's absolutely clear to the world that the US government is now unstable.

I'd love to know is this is yet another record that Trump has set. I know we've had instability before in US history, but for the most part especially recent history the dollar has been strong, and certainly stable. For him to have toppled the US as an economic power...who would have guessed he'd be the guy?

Oh, everyone. Just hard to believe that even he could do this.

And yes, I see it's The Onion, but like OP said, it's very true. We are yet again in unprecedented territory.

It's less "Who'd have guessed he could do this?" and more "The US has always been a nudge away from collapse, huh?" I think.

Right, but it's such a huge entity that it's like a bad steering for a tanker. You start to drift wrong, but there's enough inertia to regain control before things get ugly, and we have before. Of course if you're leaning drunk on the rudder for an hour or turn it hard and then remove the rudder controls...what can you do then?

He had a shit ton of help. He had the 2025 people, Bannon, SCOTUS, all the Republicans in Congress. He couldn't do this alone. They want to destroy our government and create a monarchy.

Redundant. They already said “Trump”.
