It's less "Who'd have guessed he could do this?" and more "The US has always been a nudge away from collapse, huh?" I think.

Right, but it's such a huge entity that it's like a bad steering for a tanker. You start to drift wrong, but there's enough inertia to regain control before things get ugly, and we have before. Of course if you're leaning drunk on the rudder for an hour or turn it hard and then remove the rudder controls...what can you do then?
