Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Taking bets on whether they’ll be more or less incompetent. Taking bets

2/1 both ways. While he sits on the left side of the bell curve, so do the people hiring him. Taking bets, taking bets

Curious to know how it'll be determined? Time in office? If fewer days than Hegseth, that would seem to imply less competence, but I feel like a highly competent person in this administration wouldn't last long at all. There needs to be some optimum level of incompetence to survive. So a less competent SecDef may actually last longer, but cause more damage.

Time till catastrophe. Hegseth managed a catastrophic failure after sending battle plans to his friends and family. He stayed in office long after a major unforced fuckup, but that was someone else’s fuckup and therefore not counted in Hegseth’s competence.

a more competent secdef, would challenge TRUmp too much.

[–] j0ester@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Probably a different FOX News reporter.

[–] MajinBlayze@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

It's truly hard to imagine a pick less competent than Hegseth, though I've been surprised by the administration before.

More incompetent, less competent

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

he sourced hesgeth from fox and friends, probably another on: possibly hannity, since hannity has been with trump and various golf meetings over the years.

[–] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Now, the hard question. Do you think that he would be better or worse? 2/1 odds either way~~

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 2 points 1 week ago

slightly more competent, but not by much. mostly because hesgeth is drunk all the time.

Probably someone at OAN next.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

could be people from fox again: Hannity, or the wierdo greg kelly from one of the other channels.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I would love to see Hannity’s senate confirmation hearings.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 2 points 1 week ago

hannity, because hes been oddly in trumps entourage since trumps 2020's loss at leas tin golf court meetings.

Mmmmm?....Who would be the most inappropriate pick?

Is Pablo Escobar still alive?

[–] futatorius@lemm.ee 1 points 5 days ago

He's too competent.

Trump will pick another talk-radio imbecile, or maybe a Tik Tok celebrity who set a record for eating Tide pods.

[–] SinningStromgald@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Wonder what barrel they will scrape the next failure from?

[–] partial_accumen@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago

My guess is disgraced retired general and paid Russia Today personality Michael Flynn.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 week ago

So when a new president?

[–] oppy1984@lemm.ee 4 points 6 days ago

Seeking the position of Secretary of Defense.

Qualifications.

  1. I've watched every Rambo movie.
  2. I would be the best SecDef, everyone says so.
  3. Being able to call myself SecDef would be cool.
  4. No drinking problem.

And just upload that to signal annnnd send.
