I have it running. For epic games it mostly is a reminder to start Heroic, as the auto claim does not work for me. Gog rarely has free games, so I am not sure. Amazon Prime works fine (sometimes it has codes for gog/epic), which can also be used with Heroic.

How would it get past the captcha? EGS always has a complicated captcha
It doesn't. It prompts you to solve it when first logging in.
For me I get prompted with a captcha on redeeming a free game, almost every time
I experienced this as well and game up on it. I've been using epicgames-freegames instead. I receive a notification when I need to sign in again and when I need to finish the checkout process.
Been mostly borked for me at least. It works as getting notified, but gotta manually claim the games.
