It’s hard bc I’m assuming many people are like me and support both.
Peaceful demonstrations are great when they work. When a regime takes those away there is only one other option.

We have reason to believe that events on 4/19 and/or the 50501 Movement may be misrepresented by the Trump Administration in an attempt to justify the use of military force.
Let us be clear: our movement is pro-democracy and firmly grounded in non-violence. We are not affiliated with any so-called “Day of Rage” or with any group or movement promoting violence.
April 19 is a Day of (Community) Action centered on mutual aid, community care, and civic engagement. Any portrayal to the contrary is a deliberate distortion intended to undermine our message and suppress our broad, growing support.
We are aware of specific and credible threats involving aggressive policing, ICE presence, and even the potential deployment of military force against peaceful demonstrators—in Washington, D.C. and other locations on April 19.
For clarity: 50501 DC is hosting a peaceful community aid event in Franklin Park. We are not connected to any actions taking place at Lafayette Square, the Naval Observatory Building, or the Washington Monument. We cannot vouch for their safety of plan, and we are not affiliated with their protests.
Participants should be prepared for an increased law enforcement presence. In some locations, ICE agents may also be present. We urge everyone to stay grounded, remain peaceful, and prioritize de-escalation and safety for all.
Remember, de-escalation, mutual care, and disciplined non-violence are our greatest strengths. We keep us safe.

there's also a degree to which once the republicans label us as terrorists there's nothing left to hold onto with regard to respectability politics. people want to paint within the lines, to be free without being dead, but when the only avenues for non violence are dubbed violent, it becomes easier to justify the violent means because, hey, they were going to punish you for using them even though you didn't.
i think in a lot of ways, it's important for the future generations for us to demonstrate that we tried to be nice, we tried to be reasonable. that we are the reasonable ones. but at a certain point, martyrdom in the lion pit wins us nothing, and a nika revolt at the hippodrome is more the move
We're up against fascists. If the peaceful demonstrations remain too peaceful for their liking, they will just hire people to join the protests and act violently.
It sounds conspiratorial, but it's a textbook step towards starting a coup: if there isn't an excuse to declare martial law, make one.
Thanks but does anyone have a source for this? 'Reports' and 'reason to believe' are a little vague and could be fearmongering to hurt turnout. To be clear, I don't doubt this at all, but I don't trust anything with all the lies and bait nowadays.
