It’s more the concept of a tariff.

[–] evenglow@lemmy.world 20 points 2 weeks ago

Exactly this right here. Worst part is all the Republicans in charge are not even on the same page. Chaos.

Lemmy is completely crushing Reddit with fresh, fun memes. It reminds me of how brilliant Reddit was at its inception. I love the look and feel via alexandrite.app. Keep it up and thanks guys.

It's not the platform, it's the people using the platform. That's something the Reddit owners didn't get.

Some of the owners are complicit. I deleted my account (the first time) back in '16 when I was fed up with the tolerance for extremists. Loving decentralized options that protect us with reasonable moderation options.

I've been thinking the same, and even saw some folks here earlier today saying similar things. It's nice, and i hope it lasts 😬🤞

alexandrite.app - neat, Lemmy World proxy/interface?

[–] Bonus@lemm.ee 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

I am an old. I do not know what that means. It's not lemmy.world dependent but yeah, a nicely tweaked interface(?) It has very cool kind of neon style. Clean, readable. Flexible layout. I use it in a browser on my phone too.

Almost always fail to load pics here.

Maybe this will work...

Edit: Duh, yeah a proxy (said with absolute confidence)

collapsed inline media

Sweeeet desktop first, that’s the gap cuz Voyager iOS is SO good

Right after posting, I changed my mind about the proxy guess… (sounded wasteful to have to kinda [briefly] mirror so much Lemmy) Thinking direct API calls. Oh yeah indeed client-side rendering, so like:

A Lemmy instance (Lemmy.World, etc) maybe is like kinda a pump station, while Alexandrite is like a high-end faucet. It’s not actually producing or storing water but it sure makes it much better to use than simply having an open pipe.

collapsed inline media

Well at least perhaps we know the phrase “client side” out of all that!

(One final analogy attempt: we can download a Lemmy app from an App Store and use Lemmy pretty much directly. What if the app was hosted somewhere but nothing else changed? That’s Alexandrite in my mind.)

Thanks 😎

Forgot I made an account on another instance and they both show up with this more purple theme so that screenshot you're showing is throwing me off but there's a whole series of tweaks you can do in their settings. I guess I have it set to default. Might have forgotten to look for Alexandrite community. Thank you.

oh, there's this, where you log in: https://alexandrite.app/instance

Looks like screenshots here for me:https://lemmy.world/post/1095076

Trying to subscribe to https://lemmy.world/c/alexandrite but it's loading poorly, not bringing up my remote instance, giving server error at the moment... And, got it. Searched from my instance with this !alexandrite@lemmy.world as they describe in the sidebar, it's pending.

"Symbolic" tariffs.

Yet again, the fascists keep enacting the most post-modern 'policies' ever, yet will vigorously argue that post-modernism is evil.

[–] ElcaineVolta@kbin.melroy.org 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

conservatives are the ultimate post modernists. any evidence that unravels "their truth" is a personal affront

[–] Bonus@lemm.ee 7 points 2 weeks ago

magats are enabled by every disgusting facet of our post Reality TV era and get all their cues from such antisocial behavior. They can't argue either way, their heads are so far up their own and eachother's asses.

Everything is exempt.

(((Except goods from Canada and Mexico, our traditional enemies.)))

[–] InvertedParallax@lemm.ee 10 points 2 weeks ago

The real tariffs were the friends we made along the way.
