Donald Trump on Saturday said there would be “serious consequences” if tech mogul Elon Musk funds Democratic candidates to run against Republicans who vote in favor of the GOP’s sweeping budget bill.

“If he does, he’ll have to pay the consequences for that,” Trump told NBC News in a phone interview, but declined to share what those consequences would be.

“He’ll have to pay very serious consequences if he does that,” he added.

Trump also said he has no desire to repair his relationship with Musk after a feud between the two men erupted into public view earlier this week.

And this is exactly why Trump won. Twice.

[–] shiroininja@lemmy.world 16 points 11 hours ago (3 children)

Do you have no principles? Like look what Musk has done. And you want democratic candidates in debt and aligned with him? He’s just going to continue what he started, he’s not going to do an about face.

We should be incriminating millionaires putting money into campaigns, not accepting them

[–] bizzle@lemmy.world 8 points 10 hours ago (2 children)

Don't let perfect be the enemy of good enough.

[–] Zaktor@sopuli.xyz 5 points 10 hours ago

Don't accept money from Nazis.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 3 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

The democrats are absolutely not good enough. Elon Musk is absolutely NOT GOOD ENOUGH. What an insane thing to say about a Nazi. THIS is why your country is where it is right now, not because of the people who refuse to side with nazis. It’s because of the enablers like you.

[–] bizzle@lemmy.world 4 points 9 hours ago (2 children)

It's because of your purity tests that we got Trump in the first place.

[–] Cosmonauticus@lemmy.world 4 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Voting for the lesser of two evils eventually gets you the greater evil due to apathy. Your vote feels lesser when your options are always shit vs shittier. We literally saw that happen yet democrats learned nothing. Especially when they constantly go after the shittier voting demographic

[–] bizzle@lemmy.world 6 points 9 hours ago

Listen I'm not saying it shouldn't be better. But I'd rather vote for a Musk funded Democrat than a Trumper. I would love to live in a reality where Citizens United never happened and money is banned from politics, but the way it stands I would vote for a literal steaming pile of horse shit if it was running against Trump and I'm not sorry about that.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl -2 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

No, you guys got Trump by American liberals not doing anything of value to steer their country away from fascism for decades and then blaming literally everybody but themselves. Your do nothingness and trying to pretend it’s activism is just so tiring. Every time your democrats were in power you increased defence spending, increased US caused civilian deaths around the world, increased the US’s stranglehold on world politics, and then you try to shame people in countries that are affected by this for not liking you. It’s not a purity test from where the rest of the world stands, it’s just the fucking reality.

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 1 points 7 hours ago (2 children)

Your not even American?
Kindly shove your election opinions up your butt.

[–] conditional_soup@lemm.ee 1 points 4 hours ago

Dude, America casts a huge shadow. We've spent the last seventy years fucking the rest of the world up, and now we've just got done ripping a meth pipe and telling ourselves how reasonable we've actually been this whole time. Other people are going to have opinions about our politics because we're a loaded gun.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl -1 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago) (1 children)

Nah, when your country stops threatening to invade my country maybe that dumbass American bullshit of “YOURE NOT AMERICAN YOUR OPINION ON OUR ELECTIONS DOESNT MATTER” will fly, but until your countries politics stop strongly negatively effecting the rest of the world at such significant levels as they are currently then you can shut the fuck up with that rhetoric son, the rest of the world ain’t buying it.

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 1 points 6 hours ago (1 children)
[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl -1 points 6 hours ago

Back at ya bud.

[–] evenglow@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

My principles don't matter. Your principles don't matter. The principles of every single voter doesn't matter. What does matter is the principles of the President of the United States of America.

The functioning of the US government isn't just for you. Or your principles. Your principles are never on the ballot. Don't be selfish.

[–] shiroininja@lemmy.world 1 points 8 hours ago (2 children)

This is brain dead. We live in a representative democracy. They’re supposed to be reflections of us. Public servants that carry out our will and nothing more.

[–] evenglow@lemmy.world 3 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

You insult because your brain is dead. Take a moment. Read my comment again.

[–] shiroininja@lemmy.world 0 points 7 hours ago

You sound like you want a dictator that rules as THEY see fit. Not for us.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 0 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

If you think the US is any kind of meaningful definition of representative democracy then you don’t know what you’re talking about and shouldn’t be taken seriously when talking about these things.

[–] shiroininja@lemmy.world 2 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Then enlighten me, what is it? We elect people to represent us, to vote in our favor. Not to rule over us with autonomy. Like I said, they are public servants, nothing more than DMV workers but with more responsibility.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 0 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

It’s a fascist oligarchy masquerading as a democracy.

[–] shiroininja@lemmy.world 2 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

I mean currently, yes, that’s hard to argue with, but it wasn’t founded or made to be that way.

I guess I was focused on what America is supposed to be as a concept

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 0 points 6 hours ago

Yeah, I get that. But what it’s supposed to be and what it is in reality are massively different.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 0 points 9 hours ago (3 children)

Liberals will never admit that their lack of principals is a large part of why the USA is what it is right now.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 5 points 9 hours ago (2 children)

Taking Musk’s money and influence to make the world a better place isn’t a problem.

Letting him pick a direction for the party or make policies would be my red line.

[–] shiroininja@lemmy.world 7 points 8 hours ago

People don’t give money without expecting something in return. And these spineless democrats will 100% let him run circles around them if he promised to keep them in office.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl -1 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Those who side with nazis are no better than the nazis themselves.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 2 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

There’s so much wrong with your little thought terminating sentence there.

Taking Musk’s money to get power isn’t siding with Nazis.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 2 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

The level of naivety you have to have to think people give campaign donations while expecting absolutely nothing in return is just crazy man. I don’t even know where this logic line could even be coming from.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Start a party where you only accept donations from ideologically pure sources and see how far it gets you.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 1 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

You’re justifying taking donations from nazis right now, just so we’re clear. What would it take for you to actually draw a line?

Taking Musk’s money and influence to make the world a better place isn’t a problem.

Letting him pick a direction for the party or make policies would be my red line.

Just like I said a couple comments ago.

[–] Soulg@ani.social 1 points 7 hours ago

Written as someone with truly no idea what the fuck they're talking about

[–] Vanilla_PuddinFudge@infosec.pub 3 points 10 hours ago

Welp, that commits my mental map of the next 8 years, here comes a Musk-funded Democrat to divide all of us again for another Conservanazi win. Yippee.

[–] ijedi1234@sh.itjust.works 0 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Which is why I favor succession through usurpation.

[–] ijedi1234@sh.itjust.works 1 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

I have insufficient resources.

[–] match@pawb.social 3 points 10 hours ago (2 children)

insufficient to find some group to join?

[–] Vanilla_PuddinFudge@infosec.pub 3 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

The left doesn't have armed militias.

...wait, why don't we? The skinhead neo-nazis do.

[–] conditional_soup@lemm.ee 2 points 7 hours ago

Mostly it's because our intelligence agencies have been running aggressive counter-intelligence operations against the domestic left for seventy or eighty years. If they can't harass them into quitting or discredit them (see COINTELPRO), then they get them assassinated (MLK Jr). The CIA specialized in launching reactionary coups across the global south to destroy democratically elected and peaceful left wing governments (see: The Jakarta Method) and there's no evidence that they ever really stopped. To be honest, much of 2016 and on has reminded me a lot of the Jakarta Method; I wouldn't be surprised if the CIA has turned inward on the US.

[–] ijedi1234@sh.itjust.works 0 points 10 hours ago

Any successful usurpation plan requires sufficient quantities of Cadmium, Astatine-210, Tetraphosphorus, Flourine Gas, and Sulfur. I have none of those, and I doubt any will ever come into my possession.
