I think bathrooms are such a common issue with bigotry because shitting is a vulnerable state where in nature makes us vulnerable to tooth and claw type predators. Therefore it's a psychological shortcut to appeal to danger and panic.
Forgive me for making an evolutionary psych argument, but I feel comfortable that I'm not overreaching.
I heard it's why dogs often stare at you while they poop. They're like "You got my back, right?"
