Cant seem to see this as a bad feature. Accounts on the internet are way too anonymous and bots are swarming every social media
In what way is anonymity bad on the internet?
I miss when it was the default position of everyone online.
Still though, with the whole damn world going online, in places where anonymity is never expected in the first place, I can see the benefit. I used Facebook marketplace once just to be ripped off.
My daughter uses an anonymous Facebook account with the name of a cartoon character, she’d just close the account if they pushed her though.
It pushes extremism and rudeness for example
Plenty of people do that with their personal information on full display.
And plenty of people commit murder without guns so they dont need to be banned?
We can circle back to this debate when anonymity is the weapon in a mass murder.
You mean like circling back to your argument when some people being antisocial by default means other factors causing it can be ignored.
When you're done with that strawman, can I borrow it to put in my field please?
Sorry to break this to you, but the people writing bots can also get over this barrier very easily - see that link to the faceswap in this thread? That makes it possible for every person with a bit of tech understanding or at least a bit of persistence to ignore this. it's not even a speed bump for people whose job (yes, job) it is to write bots.
This does nothing to make the bots go away, but it gives Meta a full facescan, which is the fucking last thing to hand over to anyone - a data breach at Meta would mean that everyone around you will get scammed by videocallers with your face; not even your bank manager would be able to detect that something is off if he knows you personally (a short phone call with you to get a voice snippet makes the illusion perfect!)
The political shenanigans in the US are also a reason to NOT give facescans out to anyone.
The solution to bots does not lie in giving up your anonymity. There are no shortcuts here that don't do more harm than good.
Dont get me wrong, Im not saying I would do a facescan for Facebook. I cant understand how anyone in the whole world would still consider using facebook at this point. All Im saying is anonimity is getting out of hand and the fascists are making very good use of it
anonymity is not the issue when you have people posting fascist shit using their real name without consequences.
Yes, in many cases anonymity is not the issue. Your point?
