Your invalid assumption is that those actions make someone nice. It makes them polite. If you live here you've surely encountered the case where someone suggests getting together outside of the shared context you are currently in (like work). You know damn well that the correct answer is non committal. "yes we should do that soon". Under no circumstances was this a real invitation and you do not start suggesting dates.

I never made that assumption, you did. I provided the quoted explanation from Wikipedia and stated that was a pretty accurate description of the terms meaning.

You know damn well that the correct answer is non committal. "yes we should do that soon". Under no circumstances was this a real invitation and you do not start suggesting dates.

I don't know that because I've been in that situation and actually followed through. It really seems like you're kind of a dick and use Minnesota Nice as an excuse.
