When Discord enshittifies to the point it shows ads in chat, Instagram will be ready to swoop in and capture the market with the same shitty ads.
I'd wager another better alternative will come up that'll be like Discord, get great traction, then go public, then enshitify. The cycle of crap software continues until a FOSS option appears.
Trying to get my friends to try anything other than the entrenched option is the issue I have.
Haven't tried it but Revolt is the FOSS alternate for discord right?
Yes, or for a more limited feature set, Matrix.
