A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.
Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:
- Both “200” and “160” are 2 minutes in microwave math
- When you’re a kid, you don’t realize you’re also watching your mom and dad grow up.
- More dreams have been destroyed by alarm clocks than anything else
Rules
- All posts must be showerthoughts
- The entire showerthought must be in the title
- No politics
- If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
- A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
- Posts must be original/unique
- Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS
If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.
Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

I'm sure many people have already archived this at the least. Or snapshots, at a minimum. Not sure if that's uncompressed, but if so, compression would save a shitload of that.
That's uncompressed, the compressed archive is just over 102GB. And yes, you can download the entirety of Wikipedia as a single archive, and they tell you how on Wikipedia itself. The easiest way is probably Kiwix.
And not just the whole thing, either, you can download specific topics, or the top 100 articles, or the whole thing in simple English without pictures, etc.
The 102GB includes pictures then? That's insane.
I honestly don't know, I've only downloaded the archive with the simple English articles and no pictures. that was only like 900mb or so. I imagine there's some sort of image optimization that's done on all images uploaded to the site. And when you think about it, most articles don't actually have images with them. So the 102gb might be the whole thing.
I can say for sure that the archive does include at least some images, because it says it does. I do plan on downloading it at some point so I can make a local mirror of Wikipedia with my Raspberry Pi, but I haven't bought a drive for it yet and don't want to use one of the ones I have now for it because I have Ventoy and a bunch of ISOs on it.
trump can't do shit as long as people keep fighting him. doesn't matter how many people he throws in prison or lines up against the wall, we beat fascism to a bloody pulp once before and we'll do it again. I'm sorry if you're so depressed about what's happening that you've lost your will to fight, but take a breather if you need to because the rest of us have your back and will take over while you get better.
wikipedia is gonna live a lot longer than trump will, and there will come a day very soon when we're dancing in the streets while he's being laid to rest in the cold, hard ground. and no amount of MAGA bullshit or pessimism from people who have given up is gonna change that future.
I think you misunderstood. The terminally ill cancer patient is getting urine salts from cancer free individuals. Nowhere on Wikipedia did anybody claim a benefit from the drinking of one’s own urine. Leave that to the alchemists.
Yeah, there's no point in engaging with anything you just wrote, because you're very clearly dedicated to whatever this wonderful and deep narrative is that you've crafted. But I will point out one thing you said that's so very obviously wrong.
I didn't make any ad hominems. You see, almost every person who has ever cried that in an argument has had no idea what an ad hominem actually is. If I say "you're wrong because you're an Argonian, and you can't be trusted", that would be typical Imperial racism and also an ad hominem. But if I say "you're wrong, because your arguments suck. and also, argonians have stinky fish breath", that would be classical Imperial racism, but would not be an ad hominem. An ad hominem is an attempt to refute an argument by using a personal attack. It is not, as is commonly believed by internet keyboard warriors the world around, merely a personal attack.
Oh, and if you're going to call someone a nazi, at least make it someone the average person would believe is a nazi. If I was anything of the sort, I personally know three admins of my instance who would not hesitate to ban me in an instant, and one or two of them could probably dox me if they wanted to.
Here's an ad hominem and ableism. Your refusal to debate the argument here is a fallacy and bad faith.
2nd instance of ad hom and ableism in this comment alone.
Thanks for reminding me you failed to answer any questions and lost this debate completely.
Strawman, that was never said. I also have a longform comment to that user already explaining why the science of the pee drinking stuff is bogus, so somehow you did a double strawman.
3rd instance of ad hom and ableism
Now for this comment.
That's literally just having integrity and debating a position. You can't argue because you don't know how to argue this topic in good faith and apparently too childish to admit it.
This is an ad hom, it is being used in an argument to strengthen your side, and further, you are basing the entirety of your refusal to discuss in good faith on ad homs in the previous comment.
This is also a fallacy and bad faith argument, it would be dismissed. Circular reasoning.
That's what you did. Literally. Don't gaslight. I quoted it so you can see. You then changed the exucse to not argue in good faith in this most recent comment to lack the ableism, which is why it looks hilarious, like you're upset I'm able to argue and think.
You are one or you support them which makes you one.
Really bad application of appeal to authority - fallacy. Lemmy mods dont determine who is a Nazi lol
Lol, I don't cause you to argue in bad faith (with entire comments full of fallacies), that's you who does so of your own "brainpower."
You've not once made a valid counterargument or even provided evidence. What evidence? The only content I've seen is your ableism and ad hominems. Can you actually form an independent, good faith argument backed with valid evidence? I haven't seen evidence of THAT being able to happen yet.
Again, you seem to think Lemmy mods are in charge of who is and isnt a Nazi, that's so strange lol. But I dont usually report to mods, I'm an adult who can handle an argument (are you?). I also am an adult who can read what people write and form opinions about them, without needing another adult to intervene or tell me how to think. Maybe that's your issue? No mod or big friend to tell you how to argue in good faith here?
I don't need to provide any evidence? You're the one making claims, the burden of proof is on you. Nobody has to do any work to disprove claims YOU'RE making.
also, your fallacy is the fallacy fallacy. https://yourlogicalfallacyis.com/the-fallacy-fallacy
EDIT: somebody just pointed out your profile to me, the whole bluesky thing, and the fact you joined on april 1st, and I can't believe I fell for it for so long. I'll admit it, this was peak level trolling, I got jebaited lmao. kudos, you are an epic prankster.
