The problem is that America has fuuuuucking suuuuuuucked for my entire lifetime, and the lifetime of my parents, and really for its entire existence barring maybe a handful of moments. There is no "great" moment for us to return to. To be honest, the only difference between the authoritarian government we have now, and the authoritarian government we have had for nearly 250 years, is that it's scaring white moderates for the first time.
Our goal should not be to try and find some mythical moment of American greatness we need only return to. Our goal should be to bring to light how awful our country has always been, how that awfulness has directly led to what we are now, and to reject that awfulness to forge a bold new future.
