I am not a native English speaker but: "do right by" is a construction meaning to treat fairly. I assume that's what he wanted to say.
Also he is talking out of his ass. They couldn't find a single person willing to vouch for him and his wife when they wanted to visit. From tens of thousands of people living there they couldn't find a single person. Greenlanders don't like them.
Yes, I specifically mentioned that "do right by" was an exception, and was likely what confused his grammar.
