A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

My experience in school made me oppose authoritarianism... fucking shitty teachers and school admin, always biased againt me because I'm "foreign" and therefore always presumed to be the troublemaker.

I once knew a Asian kid with ADHD among some other learning disabilities

Teachers would expect him to mean the Asian stereotype and he wasn't able to get the help that the white kids were getting. His parents and society put a ton of pressure on him and he almost took his own life.

Relevent: Episode 2 of 你的孩子不是你的孩子 has a part where a tutor said the kid has an intellectual disability, the mom freak out and was like "WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU JUST SAY?" as if she got insulted lol

Also Episode 5 is about the fact that kids who get low scores on their 15 or 18 year old exams, or those with "defects" like ADHD would get placed in a special "advancement program"

Spoilers: It's actually a secret forced "euthanasia", an extermination program, they get destroyed, like Aktion T4 basically, the type of shit that my mom supports

In Episode 5, the Mom (who is not the biological mother btw, in this future, all artificially created Embrys inserted into women) wanted the daughter to pretend to have ADHD so that "she can skip the examinations", but actually she just wants to kill her daughter so that she wouldn't get blamed for the "defective" embryo, and therefore can get "assigned" a new Embryo by the (very fascist) government.

The government also found a bunch of escaped kids that failed exams they were justhiding in a forest somewhere, so government sent troops to take them to extermination.

Really fucked up shit.

This show is made in Taiwan, I doubt Mainland would even make such a controvertial plot portraying the government badly.

Reminds me of CCP tbh. They wanted to "terminate" me for being the 2nd child of my family because "overpopulation" or whatever... I somehow lived... 🤷‍♂️
